so you have ported 5 1/4" FOCAL's ????? your mid???? ported???? is there any more fill like a bunch of 4"???

just asking cuz i can not see how you will get nice tight, fast, snapy mid if you can not control the driver since it's ported

Just by looking at the photo's, I doubt there will be any problems with snap. Ported cabinet are harder to design and build, but I have a feeling this one is being done correctly. Should sound great. Good luck with the rest of the project.

true just out of the ordinary to have vented mids in a car i was looking at it like subs

hard to do in the car environment

plus the Be's are designed for sealed enclosure even the Grand Utopias are sealed

once again sorry like i said not use to seeing that type of setup in a car

I have heard some really tight/snappy sounding ported mids in my own
and others installs..it is a bit more work but it's no different than fine tuning
a woofer cabinet for the enviroment

Looks like an awesome job, really coming along well. I hope your local authorities aren't knit-pickers though about vision obstruction. I did a similar install for a client with a Mini putting 4" mids and tweets on the dash and he got a nice ticket and had to remove everything.

As for the other guys arguing about vented mids not working. The Focal Utopias since back in 2001 highly reccomended vented enclosures for the mids. And at least a 15l enclosure if sealed. The only thing you have to worry about with a vented midrange is getting some mids out of the port. Which is very easily fixed with a little sound absorbtion material lining the enclosure.
