Distorted/muffled-sounding bass from rear speakers...
Hi, just wondering if anyone could suggest the source of a problem I've been having recently. I drive a 2003 Chrysler Concorde Limited, with the factory premium sound system (Boston Acoustics, IIRC). I've had this car for almost seven years, and have always been pleased with the sound quality.
My taste, especially when I'm driving, mostly runs to black/death metal, often at ear-bleeding volumes. I hadn't turned my stereo up to high volume in a couple of weeks, but I decide to while driving the other day, and noticed some distortion as I increased the volume. The song was one that I listen to frequently in my car (Spiral, by Nightrage), and I cannot recall ever hearing distortion from my system before; usually, the sound is clear when the volume tops out. When I faded to the front, the sound seemed normal, but when I faded to the rear, where most of the bass seemed to be coming from, there was a muffled distortion, sounding sort of like sustained thunder, almost as loud as the music. Could this be caused by damage from running my speakers at excessive volume or something else?
I don't know much about the technical side of sound systems, so sorry if this is something that should be obvious. Thanks.
