Where is Howard Doctor when we need him?
It's sad when a bad owner with their lack of business accumen ruins relationships despite a fantastic product line. I remember a few runs ins with that guy and he was always so determined to do things his way. My feeling has always been that most of their market is in Asia and thus he doesn't really care (or doesn't appear to by his actions) about the North American market.
If AVI "the company" was for sale I would consider it a great business opportunity because the business relationships have been so badly maintained and there is a lot of upside to turn that around especially given the great product lines.
I long for the days of Howard Doctor, and I am baffled at the potential he left on the table when he parted ways, which makes it all the more obvious how difficult things were with that current owner...I mean can you imagine where AVI would be today if Howard was still at the healm.
Howard managed to make a name and strong support for that company in couple of years of PR work, saw him at many IASCA competitions in the early 90's supporting the product. On one such occasion he had just finished the prototype of the very first AVI MX-130 mid and HF-25 silk dome tweet, and the set was installed in a Nissan 300ZX. He let me listen to that set and I put my order in on the spot, he said call your dealer...I did get the first set on the Island btw.
As I remember it, Howard too got frusturated with his partners or money men and their impossible demands, coincidently the same guy who now calls the shots, and took a buy out.

howard can be found occasionally at the vancouver audio clinic and has continued to work on again off again with avi on some special projects. bong, the owner of avi is a great guy but i feel his focus has changed in such a was that made it difficult to do logical business and after years of being asked we decided that dealing with karz and focal made alot of sense. we looked at many brands, including, morel, dls and a few others, focal made the most sense for us. its was hard to say goodbye to avi after 12 years of selling them but, they made their bed and now they can sleep in it.

I think I just chucked ....... That interior woodie stuff is AWFUL. Then again, everyone has their own tastes.
That 300c, does it have pods on the very front left and right of the dash that can be used for mids?? In our BMW X5, we installed DLS 2.5 mid domes in similar locations facing directly up and added a soft dome tweeter (DLS UR1) in the pillars facing directly across....... keeping both drivers close together. It worked spectacularly......... with an 8" midbass in the doors.
