OMG, it is absolutely amazing......... worth every penny and then some.

After 4 plus weeks of working on the Ridgeline, I got it to the point where I could safely fire it up.

The DVD-Audio section is unnnnnbelievable. I haven't even had time to tinker with the Road EQ or any EQ settings for that matter. All I've got is the front speakers and the sub running. Still need to put in the monitor, rear speakers, and center channel. I can go 6.1 surround, but will keep it simple and go 5.1.

Also, absolutely no noise whatsoever. I did everything by the book and it paid off.

Even the Ai-Net changer sounds great. I was worried about the Ion Bus to Ai-Net converter, but it keeps the signal very clean.

Question for Defro........ I did not install the ferite core on the Ion Bus cables, it should be OK, right? No noise, so I felt it was not needed.

Joe, I think even you will be impressed by the sound of the F#1 Status. I'll bring it by when I'm done installing the rest of the speakers. You can help me tweak it. :D

I'm heading out to see Timmy first thing in the morning....... I haven't been this excited in a long, long time.

JohnVroom 07-09-2005 04:45 AM

Ferrites 'prevent' noise you may need it later

I have a friend trying to sell me the F#1 status HU... I might just let him do it too

defro13 07-09-2005 06:33 AM

for the sake of a potential problem, i would use the ferrite cores, im glad you are enjoying your new f#1

Good to hear you got the F-1 running! Do you have the Morels in the Ridgeline or is it in the Civic?

mugen1 07-09-2005 06:27 PM

Civic is history. All Morels in the Ridgeline. Elate three ways up front, Integras in the back and a single 10 inch Elate sub.

Amp is Audison LRX 6

Replacing stock speaker wires was a huge pain, but not as bad as runnibg 1/0 gauge under the Ridgeline and into the composite trunk under the bed.

So..... When could I listen to it? I have three DVD-A waiting to be played in a good player. :D

coulter 07-11-2005 01:45 PM

DVDA? Lol.

I'm almost positive thats not what I'm thinking of, but what exactly is it?

mugen1 07-11-2005 06:57 PM

Yeah, watching porn while driving can cause problems.... hee hee hee.......

I just finished installing the rear speakers and I'll work on the centre channel tomorrow. Something quick and dirty. So Wednesday should be OK. I'm trying to get the dome mids and tweeters up front installed in the A-pillars. Right now, I'm running two-way Morels -- speakers from Elate three-ways, but running two-way passive from the old Dotech set I had before in the Civic.

Still sounds good, though.

JohnVroom 07-11-2005 07:44 PM

Listened to an current F#1 Status (what a name!) HU over the weekend with the new Zapco comp set... detail, articulation, clearity (I listened with no EQ or TA). The system does seem a cut above the ordinary, certainly a contender for best HU at any price. It gives my McIntosh a run for the money for sure, and it has DVD and incredible tools for tailoring the sound! The Zapcos are must audition too

Kris Dancey 07-11-2005 09:19 PM

Which Zapco's were they, Refference, Competition? Looking forward to hearing a set, but I dont think there is a distro in Canada yet... :(

SweetnLow91SC 07-11-2005 11:22 PM

I think John meant the new component set from Zapco... they are built by ESB from Italy.

http://www.zapco.com/new/mainnewFrame.htm

SUX 2BU 07-12-2005 07:52 AM

ESB, now there is a name I haven't seen in a looooong time. I was going to post a question in the Go Fish thread about ESB. I came across an ad from them in a 10-year old Car Audio. They had the funky looking mid and tweet on a single baffle shaped like the number 8 and all their stuff was white I recall.

John, but what was it that you thought sounded so clean? The head unit? The processor? The components? The amp powering them? The RCAs? The speaker wire? I would say the system itself sounded clean but to zero-in on one piece of a multi-piece system unless doing a direct comparison swap of 1 of those items is next to impossible. Just nit-picking though :D

JohnVroom 07-12-2005 09:21 AM

the system was clean sounding => there was very little detail smearing or obvious tonal deviation from the software ... I do not think they used esoteric wire (upscale wire maybe)... Zapco amps and comp set, the install was clean too it could have passed for a stock installation option (except for the 8" W7). The equipment swap would be the scientific way to evaluate each piece of the pie :D

VERY good detail from top to bottom

Actually..... I was more interested to hear just the two channel portion of the DVD-A (24 bit res audio) then the 5.1 etc. That way I could compare to the 16 bit CDs.

mugen1 07-12-2005 09:19 PM

You may have to wait till next week, Joe. I just handed over the A-pillars to Timmy. He's gonna put the dome mids and tweets in the A-pillar. There goes the idea of doing everything myself. Like I said before in previous posts, my install skills are very limited. Better to have a pro work on it.

mugen1 07-14-2005 07:37 PM

Now that I have a DVD-Audio player, I need some software. I heard there is a shop in Vancouver that sells tonnes of DVD-Audio. I'm heading into Vancouver tomorrow, so if any of you know the name of this store, please let me know ASAP.

thanks in advance................

defro13 07-14-2005 08:37 PM

i bought a bunch at futtre shop, they had quite a good selection

SweetnLow91SC 07-14-2005 11:02 PM

I've been to A&B Sound, Future Shop, Best Buy, LD, etc. I heard this shop in Vancouver was like the mother of all DVD-Audio shops. OK, maybe exaggerating a bit. Thanks anyway.

I can't remember the name... but to my memory it is on Marine Drive.... maybe by Cambie? I remember they used to advertise in the Georgia Straight...

mugen1 07-18-2005 07:55 PM

I went up and down, or should I say back and forth along Marine Drive today and didn't find a DVD store of any kind....... actually, there was this adult Video store. Bad selection. hahaha.......

Thanks for the help, though. It was fun driving around on a day I had nothing to do, but kill time.

If you remember the name, give a shout.

The setup looks great, not too flashy and certainly not stock! It looks like a perfectionist put it together, very clean and lots of attention to detail.

Starterwiz 07-27-2005 07:15 PM

Veeeeery nice!!

mugen1 07-28-2005 08:58 AM

Yeah, he really took everything into consideration. Made sure the voice coils of the tweeters lined up with those of the mids. The left tweeter had to be angled differently from the right, because of the shape of the dash on the driver's side. The speakers could not be mounted any higher up on the pillar because of the side curtain airbag cord being in the way.

BTW, Disco DUKK, if you are reading this, make room in your mailbox. Couldn't PM you last night.

mike bisson 08-07-2005 10:59 AM

Just looked at the pics of the pillars... WOW, very sweet looking -- must sound fantastic. Very clean look -- almost stock but of course too cool to be stock.

mugen1 08-07-2005 02:11 PM

It didn't sound fantastic at first. Once I used the time alignment feature of the F#1, it sounded way better.

Something is still missing, but I don'thave the time right now to play with it. All speakers are in phase at the moment. I can't use the individual speaker phase control built into the F#1 because the woofer, mid, and tweets connected via the passive crossover.

The crossover has phase switches, but is hard to get at -- installed way up behind the dash.

When I first played the system after the A-pillar install, the tonal balance was exceptional. Imaging, however, sucked to the bone. Now that it images well (time alignment), the tonal balance is not there. I haven't EQ'd it at all.

At least everything is installed and sounding decent, just not great. In time, in time........

I keep forgetting to tell Tim how happy I am with his work. It turned out awesome!

mike bisson 08-07-2005 03:17 PM

Are you going to switch to an all active setup? It seems that part of the advantage of the F#1 is going all active and the control it brings you. Sounds like you are having fun tinking though...

defro13 08-07-2005 05:33 PM

why even have f#1 and hook it to passives, really defeats the purpose

mugen1 08-08-2005 08:25 AM

Not really.............

I didn't buy the F#1 just for all its processing options. To get what I really want, I would have to get two PXI-H990. The lowest mid range crossover point on the PXI-H990 is too high for the speakers I have. I would lose 5.1 capability, too, unless I went with two processors. I guess I can go with the lowest crossover point and choose a gentle slope. The Morel passive crossover is very nice. Active is not always better.........

defro13 08-08-2005 04:45 PM

you are hardly using the x-over capability, t/a capability, the phase adjustment capability, and electronic is always better in car audio. i just thought someone buying one of the best pieces made would actually use more of it, not 1/4 of it.

Tim Baillie. 08-08-2005 05:02 PM

Dave, he is running a 4-wat setup, Morel 10", Morel 6" Midbass, Morel 4" Sealed mid and the Morel tweeter, how do you use everything,

According to a buddy of mine at Alpine it won't do 4-way AND 5.1 (rear and center).............unless you buy another H990..........

defro13 08-08-2005 06:07 PM

he right, he would have been far better off to keep his ivad901 and get a pxah900, 3 way front, center, rr, lr, center and sub. its just seems like a waste to be using the f#1 the way he is
