F150 sq install

Wow, been a very long time since i've been around these parts.
Any way just bought me a 2007 F150 lariat crew cab and I don't want to do any custom work to it so i'm looking at stock locations which means my focal 6.5's are out. Any one know anything about JL's zr line? Any one have any experiance with the 5 by 7 components? I'll be running them off of a JL 300/2 which was running the mids of the focal comps (biamped) I was running so that should be plenty of juice for those. Also I noticed Jl makes a stealth box for under the back seat fitted with a 10" w3v3. I own a Jl 500/1 already which would be ideal I think. Thoughts on that? I'm not looking to compete or anything, just a warm clean sound stage with a solid midbass punch. Also I can pick up JL parts for dealer cost so thats a plus if I go that route, just kinda wondering if you guys have any other suggestions. Price is not really an issue.

What, you can still use your Focals in that truck. I have mounting adaptors made of ABS specifically made for it. The only issue would be whether or not the truck has factory tweeter mounting locations. If it does, you are done for speakers and use the Focals. If not then you need to consider mounting them somewhere OR like you mentioned, use a 5x7" component speaker (cough Eclipse are great in this application). A deal is always nice and JL makes great equipment. Regardless of what you pay for it though, at dealer cost, it is drastically overpriced in Canada, that makes it even worse for the consumer. In the US market, it is amazing product for the price it is. Sure wish we Canadians had it available to us at the same dealer cost as the US. As you mentioned (and keep the pricing to yourself please), if it is a good deal and it is the right product for the application, then go for it.

More about these adaptors please. Everyone around here saying the Focal k2p drivers are too deep for my doors. I pray they are wrong. Also the truck has the audiophile upgraded stereo so I have seperate tweeter locations.

Missed the part about the K2P series, which yes are deep. The adaptor plates are 1/4" black abs. Take the door panel off and measure for mounting depth available + 1/4" to see if the speakers will fit. Not having the vehicle in front of me, I do not know if you can go to thicker adaptor plates or not before the speakers surround might make contact with the backside of the doorpanel. That would be another thing for you to measure.

I think thats the problem. The door panels sweep outwards to give the illusion of more room inside the truck. I know to get them in my explorer I had to build them out about an inch and modify the door panels. Oh well, at least they are easy to sell. If anyone out there has heard the Jl zr line i'd like your input, nobody around here is willing to put a pair on the sound board.

^^^^ Dave, of course there is deadening in there, both on top and below the abs. It is more than strong enough to keep solid and there is no worrying about the moisture beating the mdf to death. While where you are in the land of sun may not have that worry, here on the coase where wet weather rules, it did not take me long to realize that the normally accepted practice of mdf could not be used unless I wanted to replace them under warranty every year. A guarantee you that for overall strength that the 1/4" abs is also going to be stronger than the same width of mdf. Done properly, no rattles, no vibrations, no bleeding of air around the seams either.

I used 1/4" masonite (used t-nuts to fix the 6,5) and so far it's holding up...

I like 1" mdf coated in liquid rubber for my tweeters...very tight highs! Seriously, 3/8" material at least if you're going through the trouble.
