Finally Started New System

Ok ~ 2 years after buying my Prelude & several thoughts about my approach equipment wise, I have started to procure goods. I just purchased this comp set from Eclipse:

http://www.eclipse-web.com/component/sc8365.html

Most likely I am going to follow-up with this set, next pay cycle:

http://www.eclipse-web.com/component/sc6900.html

I have a question about installing the 3-way set up front in a 2001 Prelude. I am going to have a pro do it, but I'd like some thoughts on the optimal location for the three drivers with the least fabrication..

My choice of amp is going to be Alpine PDX 100.4. I think that this set-up will be perfect for my musical taste which ranges from classic rock, metal & mainly punk.

All & any input, thoughts & suggestion are much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, first off What head unit are you planning on using?
Are you planning on using a sub?
PDX 100.4 is adequate - I would suggest the PDX 150.4 instead!
Put the tweeter and the Mid in the A-pillars and the 6-1/2 in the door
Personally I would replace the 6x9's with a 12" sub.
ECLIPSE Subwoofers SW6210/SW6010 | Fujitsu Ten

All of this can be run off the one amp!

I am currently running an Alpine CDA-9857 ~ That was actually my first buy, but it's been so long...I'm still on the fence about a sub. I really don't need the low-end all that much and like the trunk room.

good start - you have everything else - many people are going to tell you to ditch the rear speakers. Adding a sub will bring your music to a whole new level!

Good luck!

For sure, I used to have 2 10 inch of the 1st generation Alpine Type-S in my fist car many years ago.

I have considered one of the 10 inch 8000 series from Eclipse and a second PDX, but would like to see if my golf clubs would fit in with a proper sized box!

As you can tell from the 2 year mark, I am in no rush but am starting to get eager again on this topic.

there is no sweet spot of where to put the drivers exactly. you need to pick your drivers....you said you're going subless?...I'd definitely get and 8 for the doors.

not sure if you're thinking the other two "ways" of going in the kicks or on the dash but I highly recommend getting your drivers, and play around with locations all over the front of your car using whatever temporary method you can.

drive around a couple of days with them in one spot, try them somewhere else for a couple of days and make mental notes about what you liked/didn't like....

when you've had them a way that no other way can touch, you've found where you want them mounted.....then you go see your pro.

If you're going subless, basicaly you're only way of pulling it off properly is going with something that can produce a lot of good midbass up front and extend into the higher range of the subbass. Hence MTT's recommendation of using an 8" woofer rather than a 6½".

The other method that I've used is going with dual 6½" midbass drivers. But, I picked a set that from the start already had a lot of punch in the lower frequencies. Using two, you get the extra surface area you'd get from the larger woofer up front or the subwoofer.

Both methods I find are very good. But, from one car to another, installation might be harder for one or the other. I went with the dual 6½s because I can't really fit an 8" in there due to the fact that I don't have power windows, and I needed to be sure I could clear the speakers with the window crank. It works, but people have gotten fingers snapped by woofers under high volumes while opening a window... :P
