FIT build part 5a - 2way H.A.T SE's no Tweeter - WTF?!?!
This build will be quite short and completely based off the original - it will be finished spring time http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/online/general-sq/200967-2007-sq-fit.html
Since August I've been SOLO testing the Hybrid Audio Technologies L4 WITHOUT a tweeter and to my surprise I don't need one. Both drivers are on axis helps my cause and simplifies tuning IMHO.
Head Unit is a Kenwood X794
Processor is built into the amps - 10band eq, with TA
Amps Zapco DC REFERENCE 350.2(sub), 350.2(Mids) 360.4(Midbasses)
Speaker Hybrid Audio Technologies L4SE-100rms and L6SE-180rms
Sub Sundown Audio SA12-350rms
The install will look pretty much as it did at world finals with some mods over the next 3-5 months to accommodate everything. I'm going up to See Don at CSC next week, since I can't do **** in this cold climate outdoors.
I will be lightly competing this summer in Ontario with this setup and would encourage those to check out the shows and H.A.Ts new SE line.
Enjoy the build mods

I have been mulling over using just a 2.5-3" fullrange with a midbass.. Back in the 91/92 I dropped a pair of Pioneer 3.5 f/r speakers into a buddies car and it sounded just fine without a dedicated tweeter.
I look forward to hearing about your results.

MKII is going in the my HT room which is currently awaiting custom carpet LOL - It's providing the subbass duties for my HAT Home speakers that Fozz made for me earlier in 2010. It's kind of a waste since the L8s play 40hz with authrity. I'm pretty sure the mkII wil be in a ported box to give me that sweet low end. Another thread for that and the HR room coming soon (more HAT goodies)
Sundown is a fine sub for me. It's not as accurate but it gets low and with 350rms, it shakes for I need it to do.
If you need the L4 set you can take them off my hand(best offer)

Bare in mind the L4 is a Fantastic driver. If the SE's turn out to be something unexpected then check the classifies soon

Bill, I'm quite confident the sound will be relatively the same as to what I have now with just a single L4. More refined in the midbass to midrange transition is what I'm hoping mostly. I would of chosen the L8SE but I'm afraid the transition will suffer due to power limitations. So I'll boost my subass to compensated to at 60hz. I prefer not to push the L6 below 55hz but the SE's have 2mm more xmax so that should help(i hope)

L4SE and L6SE are installed and playing. There are also two L1PROSE installed, however only for decoration. One of CSC's customers decided to run pink noise thru them. So for now, they will fill the holes, until the spring - during re-build mode.
I spent a good part of the morning adding chivant clay to both pillars to further add mass. Once the kicks were done, I had to make a single amp rack plate to house the last zapco amp. Carpeted, wired and mounted above both 350.2s until the whole amp rack and battery mount is redone. (photos not of amp not worth posting)
One side note - The BNIB Zapco AMP Mini USB connector snapped right off it's 9 solder connections. What a **** off - Thankfully Robert at Zapco was able to help with it. Gotta love re-used solder.
So how does it sound. Early to tell. The L4s will need a **** load of time to break in. But I'm happy to report the L6SE are a much better MIDBASS driver then the L6. Not to say the L6 was bad. It just didn't have authority in the 60 to 90hz IMHO.
The drive home from QC was a blast and it was nice to get lost in the music for once and not have to tweak the xover on every song.
Sorry for the lack of photo's. I'll have more in April once the weather is tolerable

no sure who your local retailer is but I'm sure Donald at CSC in QC can order and ship them to you. www.centralstationcustoms.com
