Going to try SQ setup!!!

DW is right. don't go over your wires. for your floor deadener, make sure you get stuff that is made for the floor.
two reasons. 1) it conforms more easily to the various bends and valleys in your floor board.
2) it can withstand the heat from exhaust systems and the like.
trial and error can be a b**ch. learn from me on this one.

Also i will check out B-Quiet. I have heard this stuff is sweet and works well. What about rammat60? I heard it was comparable to dynamat.

Well, for SQ competition everything has to be protected so most people use split loom, but from looking at the carsound forumns many are switching to a product called Tech-Flex, an mesh expandable sleeving. as for securing it you can get little plasic clips that have two sided tape on the bottom and you stick that down then zip tie the cable bundle to the plastic clip. It looks really good and if you have to get at the wire you can cut the zip tie and redo it if need be. Also you don't have to drill holes in the car like those black loop clips alot of people use.

I think perhaps a clarification is required when someone says "flat RTA response". I wouldn't think they would mean a flat line. I would HOPE they mean a smooth curve. Smoothness is what you want between bands. Not something that looks like a city skyline or mountain range.

I believe it was the my Saturn we tuned to pretty much perfectly flat. It was pretty easy with the help of the PPI deq 230. I wish I had another face plate for the eq that I could have just swapped with it for my sq settings so I didn't have to play with the setting all the time. But if I remember right, I just switched the switch to "default" eq and ran it with no eq for sq and it still scored pretty high. </font>
Ideally you want a flat response? Why would that be ideal? You would then be tuning out the natural cabin gain that virtually every car enjoys. That would sound very weak. I don't think any serious competitor has ever tried to get a flat response and still hope for it to sound good. A smooth response, yes.

I guess this is the "old school" coming out in me. Like I said in a previous post there used to be both an RTA reading and a SQ portion. These are completly different and is why things don't seem to sound right.

I think I understand what you mean about the old skool way of doing it. I was competing in IASCA back in 91 so that's old skool enough I think You didn't get any extra points at all for a flat RTA curve (totally horizontal). As long as your curve (whatever it may be) was smooth enough between bands to not have a 3 dB deviation (spike or dip), you got full points. Or was it 1 dB? Been so long. I guess if you got docked a point for a 1 dB transition, then totally flat would be the way for full points.
I scored 34 once with my Avenger in Edmonton No EQ or nuthin. Just tuning by ear about 1/2 hour before the show. I should scan the RTA printout. I'm quite proud of it
