Good lower mid range woofer

ok, so I'm building this system... bear with me, it may not seem like this is sq related.

I've always wanted to build a 4 way system in a car for a couple of reasons. First and foremost I'm a big bottom end SPL junkie, so I can't get away from my big ole' group vented enclosure with a bunch of 15's in it. Over the years though I've reveled in the quick punch of low transient respsonse in my friend's cars, but always chosen the trade off for output and depth.

I want my cake, and I'm gonna eat it if I can, here's my theory:
build a standard 3 way system (f/r mid/high, and a sub) but feed the sub signal through a crossover and produce "high" bass and "low" bass channels.
There's a ton of problems I'm going to have to overcome before this will work musically (time correction being the biggest), but a good start would be finding a suitable driver for my higher bass range.

I've looked around for a while and it seems like any speaker that isn't a door speaker is only designed to produce skull crushing bottom end bass!!1!!1!!!. That's not what I need here, I need musical response from a tight driver in a sealed enclosure.

The size of the driver isn't important, neither is it's box dimensions. There is however the fact it WILL be going in a box, so most door speakers and "free air" drivers are out. The operating range will be somewhere between the ranges of 70hz and 280 hz, and it's important that it produces acurate response in that area. Can anyone help?

Your list is going to be huge. There are lots of midbass woofers that can do the job you need. It will all come down to the space you have available and your budget.

ok, system's already topping $13,000 with me doing all the fab/install as well as electrical. I'm willing to spend up to $3000 more for the drivers alone, not shooting too high here because I'm expecting to buy 6,8 or maybe more of them.

As for the space: I've got about 12 cubic feet of cabin space left to play with.

I was looking at the JL 8W7 woofers. All I'm going on is company history, but I think thier a start. Maybe I could narrow down the list a bit by asking what the ideal driver would be.

Also, am I wrong in thinking of just running a big monoblock to power all these? I think it's still below the point of stereo seperation, I'm just wondering such an amp works at higher frequencies? (dumb question maybe?)

I used to use the JL 6W0 'mini subs' for midbass 70-250. worked well.
but to keep up with 4 15's, i'd think 10" subs would work for midbass.

For midbass, use a midbass woofer, Subwoofer are generally not designed to produce mid frequencies as well as a midbass would be. Look into pro audio midbass woofers. They are usually designed to be abused and are very effieicent.

I would not suggest using a class D mono amp on these woofers. Stay stereo, and go AB if you can. I havent found a class D that I liked for midbass yet. You may have more luck that I do, or you may not be as picky.

Where are these being located. I think I missed that part.

location was going to be a wall behind the front seats rising up to about chest level. I'm thinking now about ing them out, there's enough room under the seats for one on either side, as well as some room between seats when I remove the center console.

I'm looking around for midbass drivers, It'll just take me some time to find some options igess. I'll also look into getting 1-2 ab amps to run this once I find out what wattages I'll need.

I'm digging through this right now:

Ok, I'm looking at getting 4 of the morel supremo 9's:Morel Loudspeakers - Mobile Audio - Components - Mid-Woofers/Woofers - Supremo
The only thing I'm wondering about is using so much box volume and so little power for the cone area.
I am doping up my midbass for a reason, and I do want it musical, but this obviously isn't an SQ system.
