HDCD
I understand what you are saying; however, other than changing one's speakers, the biggest improvement one can make is to improve the source. Garbage in, garbage out is a cliche because it is true -- if you do not have an excellent source, you cannot have excellent sound.

justifiable improvement, 2 words that should never be said together(negatively speaking) when talking about audio, oh and the ever stupid, law of diminishing returns. if there is a difference for the better with a new d/a converter, the value in it will be determined by the person purchaing it and no one else. would you spend 5000 to make your stereo sound 5% better, it would depend on your passion, some have more than others

Garbage in...Garbage out...so true. The best CD player in the world will not make some of the craptastic new release sound good!
DVD-Audio compared against HDCD?
Isn't that like apple pie with icecream compared to oranges?
DVD-A done right sounds very nice.
DVD-A done wrong sounds horrible...regarldess of how much space you have on the medium.
