How to decide on hi end comps when u can't hear them first?
Hi,
I'm looking to make the next step in my car audio setup but don't know the best way to proceed. I recently had the Clarion DRZ 9255 HU installed and now want to change out my comp speakers (currently running the Focal Polyglas 165v2's).
How does one decide when you can't hear it first?
I've been thinking along the lines of Morel Elates, DLS Iridium 6.2, or the Seas Lotus Ref lines but it is near impossible to hear them setup on a similar system to mine.
Reading forums seems to be the only way, and based on that it would be a toss up between the SEAS and the Morel (with the SEAS, maybe a bit better).
For reference I have the following setup:
Clarion DRZ 9255 HU (best money I've spent!)
JL 300/4 - Bi-amped
JL 500/1 driving a JL 10W3v2 in a 1 cu/ft selaed box
Focal Polyglas 165v2 - no passive crossovers - Actively done from the HU.
Thanks

I would never purchase something solely on the opinion of others. Although it's impossible to audition speakers in a situation identical to your setup, the best way would be to listen to the same program material as you're familiar with on your own system.
Getting suggestions is a good thing, don't get me wrong, but everyone's ears are different & the bottom line is that you should trust your own.

Well, so do you have no way to hear them at all? Or just not all set up the same?
If you can at least hear them you can get an idea of on and off axis characteristics, the feel of the tweeter, etc.
If you have no way to hear them at all then you have to make a choice and go for it. Of the sets you listed, I would be surprised if you were really disappointed with any of them.

Maybe I'm going back to my days as a home audio buff, but my fear is not about whether any of the units I mention are any good, it is whether they are a good match for all of the other pieces installed.
Some gear just works better together.
