How does the AVIC-N1 compare to the P9 combo? Is that even an "apples to apples" comparison?

Ignoring the functions such as Navigation, DVD playback and Engine performance, is the audio part of the AVIC-N1 comparable to the P9 combo?

Sorry for the newbie question, but now that I have the P9 combo (still not installed), I am having second thoughts about it as I would really like a awesome audio system (the P9 combo is in the right direction for that), with Navigation and DVD player capabilities.

Now I don't know if I should still install the P9 combo in my car or sell them and get an Avic-N1...........

Anyone here have an Avic-N1

Those of you that have the P9 combo, what have you done to address multimedia needs you have? Specifically Navigation and DVD playback?

If you want SQ go for the P9 combo... then if you want to add Multimedia and Nav to that, Pionner has their IP-Bus system whichi allows you to control the AVIC9DVD and the AVX-P7300DVD. I was considering swapping out my DEH-P930 and AVX-P7300DVD but I found the AVIC-N1 doesn't have the sound quality of even my 930, plus the picture quality with the touch screen doesn't even come close to my 7300DVD. This of course is my personal opinion.
If you want complete ease and keeping space, go for the AVIC-N1 as you only have one piece to install in your dash.

This is no where near an apples to apples comparison.

If your goal is navigation, DVD playback, and basic CD player operations get the N1 (or similar if you don't care about the engine performance stuff it has).

If you want a great audio system and feel you want the 31 band EQ, time alignment, crossovers, and excellent audio section keep the P9 and add on multimedia to suit your needs after that.

I guess adding on the multimedia is a necessity since SQ is my overiding concern. The only challenge would be where to put it. Perhaps a fold down LCD screen from the roof where the rear view mirror is now. It could double as a rear-view screen and navigation system.

What do you guys think of this approach?

Having a screen in view of the driver when the car is in motion is a recipie for a dangerous driving charge, especially if the cops can see the screen from outside the vehicle.

*Unless* it is being used with an in-vehicle navigation system..

The funny thing is: all those stupid fuzzy dice and acoutrements people put on their rear view mirrors are just as bad, and illegal in some places as they too are a "driver distraction" (but a helluva lot cheaper!!hehe)

one day a police officer is investigaitng a car crash and he is talking to the blonde womon who was drivin gthe car. he asked her why she had lost control of the vehicle and she said" well and i was driving along when i saw a tree so i swerved to aviod it then i saw another one and swerved the oppisite way to avoid it and eventualy i lost control and crashed". the police officer stund at what she said says " Lady there isnt a tree for miles around here. what you saw was your air freshener"

The primary use would be In-car navigation. The DVD playback would be for monitors in the head rests for my kids in the back seat.

And the AVIC has "dual zone" capability so that is a plausible explanation for having the screen in "use" if pulled over. I bought the (last) avr-w6100 from Future shop online and that's what I have in my headliner for the rear passengers. I found it cheaper and easier than making headrest monitors fit. It'll be great for our cross country trip next week.. now if only I'd get my avh-p6500dvd in the mail...

In Ontario, if a screen is in any way visible to the driver, for navigation or not, it is dangerous driving. Someone around here got pulled over for it not long ago and got the book thrown at him.
