infinity or Alpine

I'm not too sure about the type R components (the type R subs are quite good).
I've heard infinity perfects, and I've had the infinity reference speakers in my car for a previous install. The references were surprisingly very clean sounding for their price. I found the perfects a little bright, but they could take a lot of power, and maintained good sound quality even at high volume.

Hello
The Alpine Type R's sound nice, but so do the Kappa's (and Beta's not sure if they still make them or not). Both are good sounding speakers, the Infinities were a little brighter in the top end but seemed to have better reproduction of the male voice. The Type R's did a good job with voice reproduction but seemed a little unfocused in the upper female range. I was comparing these 5 1/4 sets last year, not sure about this years models.
Good Luck J

I have owned both comps...well the Type R comps and the Perfects. Here is my unbiased opinion....
If you want your highs to be crisp, and somewhat bright, go with the Infinity's. The midbass is somewhat lacking, but what comp set isn't? This is going to be sharper and sound real tight.
As for the Type R, the midbass is impressive for the amount of money. The cones are aluminum, so they sound a little pingy, and not as warm as the Infinity midbass. The tweeter is softer, but not as clear.
Tough decision for you, but I have some CDT's in my front stage right now and I believe these are better than both comp sets. 150 US at www.thezeb.com

If you have the the money take the type X's but bang for the buck probably infinity's, he!! go audition them both and see which one you like better. And remember what sounds a bit too bright or harsh for you will sound more so in your car
