Kick panel aiming

Well, it's time to get started on my kickpanels. I'm new to this whole SQ kicks thing and have a few questions about aiming them. Construction isn't an issue, just how to aim them for best sound and imaging... Does anyone know of a good site or DIY page on kickpanel aiming?

Or does anybody have suggestions for aiming my Diamond Audio M6 5.25" components in my Fiero?

Aim the passenger kick to the inside driver's ear, and the driver's kick to the passenger inside ear...but this is only a rule of thumb. You just have to experiment with aiming...

One way is to drill a hole in the center of the cutout area big enough to fit a pen lazer pointer in it. (the ones you find at staples used for teaching pointers). Then start playing with the placement. And as the person above said aim the right side at the drivers right ear and vise versa. This is not a dead nuts on aiming but pretty dam close.

The system may get shown, but the main plan is just a good sounding stereo for my daily summer driver.

System consists of:

Pioneer DEH-P880PRS
Coustic 601SE for the subs
Coustic 481QE bridged for the fronts
Diamond Audio DS312D4 subs (2)
Diamond Audio M6 components

Possibly planning on adding an audiocontrol EQ later on if I'm not satisfied with what the deck has to offer.

A piece of string and some tape will do too. Careful with that laser pointer and your eyes.

I've used the laser pointer. Works pretty well. When you are doing it by yourself though, aiming at your own ears can be kinda difficult unless you have a pointer that has doesn't have an on switch that has to be pressed down at all times. I also find aiming at the top rear corner of the side windows to work well. For 2 door vehicles anway. That's right about inline where your ear is from the kick panel. I find aiming right at the inside ear can produce some beaming issues. Sometimes entirely on-axis for the opposite side drivers isn't always best. Its a great place to start though. Other recommendations I have heard in the past have been to aim at the rearview mirror or at the back of the radio. Pretty different as far as angles go but some speakers work better with different angles.
