Looking to match an amp to 4 speakers.

Hey all

Just have some questions to see if the answers match the salesperson I spoke with today.

Current Stuff:
Alpine iDA-X001
Alpine Type-S 4 x 5x7

Sub:
MTX Thunder 2301
Eclipse SW7000

I want to keep the sub stuff as it is, but I'm looking to upgrade the 5x7's.

1) Am I assuming correctly that running off a 4 channel amp is going to improve sound quality dramatically over the head unit?

2) Do I need a lot of wattage to drive 4 x Memphis M-Class I5-M57. He was suggesting a 1000 watt MTX amp to do the work. Would an MTX TA3404 (50x4) do the job?

3) Is it important to stick with the same amps for tonal balance? Should I be buying eclipse speakers to match with the eclipse sub?

4) Should I be looking to get a cap if I do this "upgrade"?

5) Am I going to notice a big difference in SQ?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
Craig

I would say add a 5ox4 amp and you will most likey be satisfied 100%
Sounds to me youre running highs off of h/u right now, correct me if im wrong.....
but any hoo 50x4 will crank bro and matching sub brand with others is a croc of !
you wont need a capacitor unless you wanna wack that salesman in the head with it

Thank you very much, I just didn't understand the need for all the wattage if I wasn't attaching a sub to it.

The Memphis speakers an upgrade over the Alpine Type-S stuff? Or would maybe just an amp give me the wanted upgrade in SQ? Or is that impossible to say?

Start with amp only, all after that is minamal unless you replace speakers to match amp(you could get into thousands of $$)

There is lots of ins and outs to this game,at first when i started out it was all about how much you can spend.
At the same thats true but at the same time its not, experience outways the need to spend.to me the need to spend money on subwoofers is retarded, unless spl oriented.
day to day life, most woofers will take as much abuse as you can throw at them, unless you picked up a kx1200.1 as i did back in the day and are afraid that the woofers you chose will not take that kind of abuse over and over.
from there i went to a kicker dealer(not saying who)were i was sold 2 cvrs amd a third on the way for a great deal!
some might figure out and all i got to say is dan can sell a fridge to an eskimo3
Pretty much what im saying is im no better off now than when i started, aside from knowing way more than i do now.
when it comes to advice you take off this site, i hope you can weed thru it.anyone thats a supportting member, contributer, etc, dosent mean !

Well all I really want to know is if adding an amp for my highs will improve sound quality over using the head unit for the highs. That's it basically.

Definitely add the outboard 50w x 4 amp. It will bring the speakers to life. If you are interested in better sound, choose better speakers. What vehicle is this for and do you have a budget for your upgrade. Would you mind some suggestions?

I don't think 50 x 4 is near enough!

I have 125 wrms on each speaker and i'm looking for more.

The car is a 2002 Ford Focus SE Sport.

This upgrade, I want to stay below $1000 CAD.

I don't mind suggestions at all, I live in a small city and want to shop local however. This can limit things.

Local Speaker/Amp Brands:
Eclipse
Memphis
Soundstream
MTX
Alpine
Kaption

I'm happy with the sub/sub amp and head unit. Speakers and amp for them are fair game. This isn't a competition car or anything like that. I find right now I lack midrange. There's just fullness missing. I don't know how to explain it better.

Thanks,
Craig
