Looking for reviews/comparisons

Hello everyone

I have been searching for the last few weeks on a number of sites, including this forum. Is there any place where I can look at comparisons and / or reviews of car audio equipment...? For example, if I were to buy a completely new system and had a budget limit defined, where would I go to find out whether to e.g. buy focal or rainbow front components...and which ones?

Would appreciate if some of the more experienced guys here point me in the right direction.

There is no such site, there is no magic formula as to whats right for YOU.
What do you have experience with?....what have you heard?...what do you like?.....SQ or SPL, everyone can rhyme off their favorite equipment for whatever reason but that may not suit your particular goals/needs ....

Give us something to work with and people can throw suggestions at you and then you get to pick and choose based on your opinion of their opinion.

example, anyone can tell you that Rainbow reference is better than Pyle components, but if your budget is $75 then the PYLE is better for YOU in YOUR situation....

Thanks for the answer.

Okay, let me put it this way. For SQ, which of the following components for a 2007 Honda Civic Sedan would you change/subtract/ or add to it:

Alpine 9887 (with Imprint module)
Polk Audio SR6500 Front Components
JBL WGTI 10" rear sub
Polk Audio MOMO 400.4 Amp (to drive both the sub and fronts)

I would get a bigger sub, like a 12". Also, I would get a bigger amp, and possibly a five-channel, or a three-channel, if budget is an issue. That little momo will surely be enough for the front components bridged, but if you hook up a sub to it too, it will surely not drive the sub too good.

Well, to be honest, I have not heard this system. I have compiled it based on what I have read in different posts and reviews. And since I am planning to buy it soon, all I want is to know if I can better it from an SQ point of view without spending anything more than $300 more than it already costs.

Any inputs in this regard will be highly appreciated, because I do not want to find out a few months after installing this system that ' X amp would have been better for you rather than the MOMOs' or for any other component, because I would be disheartened then. I have been saving up for this for a while now, so wanna make sure its the best SQ for my buck, period.

Please feel free to suggest any changes in this setup. I would also like to know what accessories to go for with the listed equipment, i.e. sound proofing, wires and cables, maybe 3-way components up front...etc

Thanks everyone! counting on you guys

If you are getting all that for $300 - grab it and run, but if you are going to do the system right the first time, I would look into getting more amp power than one little baby Momo amp. Hidden cost like rca's, dynamat, wires, etc will run your bill up a bit, but its all worth it. Spend a bit more and do it right, as your system will be a s good as it's weakest link. I would look for good rca's on sale. Second from top of the line are always very good. Any good brand name will do. You can always find Streetwires or Fosgate for a good price.

Sasha,

I meant $300 OVER AND ABOVE the price of the system I mentioned above. Which means a total of maybe 1800 dollars!!! And yes, I need to know the auxiliary equipment I should be looking at as well...including RCAs, sound proofing etc....maybe a list down of things essential for SQ? would help me a lot since I am new to this

I cant think of anything else that has not been suggested already. Yous system components list looks like it has excellent SQ potential. I would strongly erge you to get more amp power. 400.4 is weak to do the entire system. 10" sub may not give you enough punch, cause you may feel like blasting it once in a while, and it would be nice to have the extra power and punch in the reserve and headroom. If you skimp out now, you will pay even more in the long run in upgrades. You will be happy you spent more money the first time, and very disgruntled if you don't like your end product if you save a couple of hundred dollars. Here is a list of equipment brands, including wiring brands that are good. Like I said Streetwires etc are excellent for rca's, dynamat extreme is amazing for sound damping, as far as speaker wire is concerned, you may use a brand name if you can find it on sale on Ebay or something, but as long as its good quality car audio wire, you should be fine. I would use 12-14 gauge for front components wiring, and 10-12 gauge for the sub. This way you won't have to re-wire everything over again, if you decide to upgrade system components in the future. Oh, and 3-way set-up? I thought you had a budget. It will cost a lot more to get it done properly.

here is the list

here is fosgate rca's
