my MB quart components sound about like they should for 200.00 speakers.
I have the tweeters in the doors with the mids.
Yup, they'd be too bright to put in dash or pillars.

I agree, I went from Eclipse silk tweets to the MB Q metal tweets, and found them a bit bright. If I ever replace the system I have now, I'll be looking for silks again.

Dont write off the metal tweets. MBQ probably uses titanium, if thats the case, it does not get much brighter than that. Nicely made aluminum is definitely smoother. It also depends on type of music you listen to. If you like new rock, hip hop, or trance/house - then silk tweets wont do in most cases. IMO, silk works better on music like jazz, classical, easy rock, etc. I like trance/house, and I have yet to find a nice sounding silk for this application. Right now, I have Teteron Tweeter, which was supposed to be between silk and metal, but is not bright enough for me. Next, I am trying aluminum CDT DRT-26. I shall see...

^ I like my teteron tweeters. IMO though, for car audio, it is hard to beat the Canton aluminum tweeter. Lots of extension but no eye watering

Well I just went through the "where in the hell am I going to mount my tweeter this time" phase. and after 5 days of testing I settled for a compromise. but wow what a difference tweeter location makes in the perceived HF response of the system. The tweets sounded absolutely dull in some places and shrill in most. And different tweeters sounded better in different locations too. There was no universal preferred location in this car

Dukk... in silk undies... ewwwwww.
