Mono Midbass?

Here are the system components for this year so far:

-HU: Undecided yet, most likely Pioneer DEH-P880PRS or a DEH-P780MP
-Amps: Coustic 481QE for fronts/midbass Coustic 601SE for subs
-Fronts: Undecided, 4” components. Either Focal, Macrom, Boston Acoustics or Diamond Audio
-Rears: No thanks :)
-Subs: 2x Diamond Audio DS312D4

The entire setup is going into an 85 Fiero GT. The subs are in custom boxes cut through the rear firewall. One sub behind each seat. The fronts are going to be under the factory grills in the dash (once had 4x10s). The tweets will either be with the mids in the dash, or in the pillars. Basically, the goal of the system is for it to be completely stealth.

My issue is that I feel I will be lacking a bit of midbass using 12” subs and 4” mids. I could have gone with 6” kick panels, but I can not sacrifice the space on the drivers side as the car is a std transmission. My question basically is, I would like to add a bit of midbass. I was thinking of adding an 8” sub under the passenger side dash where there is a bit of room. Or possibly in the passenger foot well under the factory carpet with a good strong grill over it. The main issue here is that I only have room for ONE midbass driver in the car, so it’s mono or nothing…

Do you guys think that a single mono midbass driver will be ok or???

If you know what a fiero install is like, feel free to make other suggestions for a bit more midbass… I’m open to ideas..

Yeah mono-midbass doesnt work very well, that is if its playing above 80hz or so.. You cant do a 6" in each door, near the front? Or how about under the dash on each side?

Oh, i have some nice 4" ext macroms waiting for you ;).

I have the 4" Mids & 5 1/4" Co-Ax Macroms. Nice Mids- but I found I needed the 8s to help round out the sound even more.

Do you have space in the back floor area to put two 8" mids there? They would be close enough to the driver and passenger seats that you can tune them using the time phase/delay feature on the 880PRS to make them act in sync with your mid up front. When done right you won't be able to tell that the 8s are behind you.

In my vehicle right now I have them outputting Sub bass 125k and below. Sounds incredible tight and adds to the overall soundstage.

A buddy of mine has a Fiero, I'll have a look and see where else you can install em.

With the 8s in the back acting as subs in conjunction with my 10 I get tremendous midbass/sub kick and I might just keep them this way in the future. (They are running in mono so no left right midbass.)

I have the 880PRS and will be installing it later and playing with the settings and slopes etc.

As for the doors, nope. Can't put speaks in the doors. Basically when you take the door panels off, the doors are solid sheet metal behind. The window rolls down very close so any speaks added would have to stick out off the door panel.. A buddy of mine did this and I hated it... In the fiero you sit so low, your outer leg is resting on the door right where the speaker would be sticking out :(

As for Putting a pair of 8"s behind the seats. The subs are currently going low behind the seats so the 8"s couldn't go there. If they have a shallow enough mounting depth they COULD go above either sub in a seperate enclosure... They would be just below sholder height at that spot.

If I can find a place for a pair of 8"s can anyone recommend a good pair of 8"s that will be fine off of about 120rms @ 2 ohms each?

Well, the 481QE for the fronts is gone :(

I'm now looking for a decent 4ch amp for the fronts/midbass...

Also, I got a line on a couple different sets of Diamond Audio speaks for a smokin deal.. All brand new, factory warranty ect ect :)

Set A:
Hex 4" Component set with (or without) Hex 3 way add on mid bass drivers and x-overs

Set B:
M6 5.25" Component set, with (or without) the MX3 3 way add on mid bass driver and x-over

Now, anybody have any ideas on where the heck to place a pair of midbass drivers?

I'm thinking I may just have to live with the lack of leg room and throw them in the kicks :(

Try the Kicker SSMB8 mid bass drivers.

http://www.kicker.com/06/tech-suppor...s%20Manual.pdf

Awesome sounding and only 2 1/4 mounting depth. 4 Ohms only though...

I just had a look at that link for the Fiero Sub install... holy tight batman! Cutting the firewall to get those subs in.
