My first thread: what to get for SQ question

Hello everyone,

my first time here on this forum.

Ive got a question for you all if you dont mind me asking.

First, I have a 2001 GS300 with stock audio but with stock dvd navigation
apparently the stock lexus audio is provided by pioneer
the problem is the bass is really lacking definition and clarity
mids and highs are so so

the first thing i would want to upgrade is probably the bass

i listen to smooth jazz, classical, oldies and music that dont use much bass
but i do want some clean bass to bring out the drums and bass guitar sometimes

my trunk is kinda small and the stock subwoofer is located right behind the rear passenger headrests... in the board right behind the seats

i was told to get a 10" type R and use a sealed enclosure

are there any other choices?
im looking to do a budget upgrade for now
something not bassy but better than stock sub/amp combo
wouldnt mind used but i want to shop local or pickup local if possible
so maybe $250 and below if possible, if a bit more, thats ok too as long as quality is good

Thanks in advance!

hehe actually $250 before tax for both used sub+box and amp in good condition if possible

probably 200~250 RMS watts is good enuf for me

if new, then $350 after tax for total

is that possible or am i too cheap?

Ok this is all depending on the money you want to spend If money wasnt an issue I would get 10" Sub maybe 2 you just want to feel it nothing to insane.
and i wouldnt look at nothing but Components for that style of music. Im all for the stealth installs. So how i would install the amps would be under the seats and a good bash guard from peoples feet. Then i would change the Deck or if your deck can support Subs and all that jazz.

Imagening and Stageing is very important. for that style of music once again you will notice every little detail. I know i notice it in my car.

So power to yah keep us informed. what you do.I would love to know.

thanx for the replies so far everyone

i would prefer to keep the amp in the trunk because there just isnt much room underneath the seats with them being heated and 10 way and all that

deck is stock DVD navigation touch screen
its lexus and id rather keep things OEM because it looks so clean and everything works so well
also if i take that away, a lot of functions like climate control would go missing
its all build into the OEM lexus touch screen
so changing it is a big no no

since there is already an amp and a sub in the stock setup, the deck has no problems hooking things up

No I think you are definately on track. A single 10" sub + box and amp with all the wiring new can be had for $350 no problem. Maybe even dual 10" if you wanted. There are many options and I think 200-300Wrms would match the system pretty evenly.
