It just a toy to play with for me. All the big boys say they don't go by what the RTA is. They tune by ear. But when you do want to play, make sure that you've bought all your gear at a shop that has one that you can use for awhile.

DWVW, and BootlegGuy, have you ever played with an RTA with resolution above 1/3 octave?

I sincerely hope those L-pads are high end using only the best silver wire components and space-age rheostats otherwise your imaging is now gonna suck.

As a few of you know, I've been struggling to tame my Focal TN51 tweeter. I've had other tweeters in the car that sound better, but they were HUGE and couldn't be mounted to give better imaging response than the TN51s on the A-pillars. What I've found, is that that TN51 is a really flat tweeter out to 20khz outside of the car. It's flater than many of the "home" tweeters that I've had in the car. It does however, interact horribly with the windshield. I'm sure a few of you experienced "PROS" will understand the peak in the 5khz region. While this can be easily tamed with my EQ, it sounds worse afterwards. In fact, I've found that where-ever I've tried to EQ a problem area, it sounds less life like afterwards. As a result, I'm finding that working on X.O. points and gains are netting me far great results than EQing.

------ have you experimented with a felt ring around the tweeter? We used to use those on home speakers back in the day.... "audio imagers" from Sound Ideas magazine are ok too. Just ideas

^ Ditto for me though my tweets are nowhere near that quality. Felt is still common for some tweeters in home audio depending on the tweeter and its mounting.

Thank you for the thought but as soon as they come in I will pull my cryogenically frozen Litz wire out and rewire it internally.

No, it's can't be that useful. My eq is only 1/3 oct. More then that would just be a toy.
