There is still some DXZ955mc HU available super cheap I believe.
Let one rip with Music Catcher
One look at the DXZ955MC and you'll know Clarion is at the cutting edge. This gorgeous, stainless steel, motorized detachable face deck plays MP3 and WMA files and features an amazing Optimedia touch panel display. The high resolution dot matrix LCD display responds to your slightest touch for the ultimate in control. Behind the futuristic face is some of the most advanced sound processing technology you've ever heard. Clarion's one-touch Music Catcher CD recording technology enables the DXZ955MC to store up to 6 CDs (when in LP mode) worth of music. Just load a CD and press the "record" button, and your music is stored and ready for CD-free, skip-free playback. For higher quality music recording, the DXZ955MC can be switched to "High Quality" mode, which allows for up to 4 CDs of music storage.
Mind-bending audio processing
Clarion's exclusive AC-Processor IV decodes standard audio sources, such as CD or MP3, into full Dolby Pro Logic II 5-channel surround sound. You can even digitally adjust the time alignment and Virtual Space Enhancer (VSP) for amazing acoustic effects and pinpoint imaging accuracy. 24-bit DAC with Anti-Distortion Filter (ADF) ensures superior sound with enhanced clarity and localization. An integrated 212-watt (peak) MOSFET power amplifier delivers unyielding power output and superior linearity. The DXZ955MC is designed to be part of a superb auto sound system, with six 4-volt preamp outputs and 2-way crossovers. The Magna Bass EX feature, designed specifically for superior bass response, gives you a tight, heavier sound. Other features include 3-band parametric equalizer, 3 screen savers and wallpapers with programmable messages, rear auxiliary input, and iPod interface so you can unplug your headphones (iPod Interface sold separately). CeNET connection controls an optional TV tuner, satellite radio tuner, or CD/DVD changer. A handy wireless remote is included.

I would add that, you should consider choosing a deck that has USB or SD/MMC. A lot of people are heading that way, it is the easyest way to move a lot of music around. Plus if you ever have to sell it, it might be easyer if it has those options.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I've never had experience with the clarion units being externally amplified though. I've had a dxz835mp and was thouroughly dissatisfied with the internal amp so that leaves me a bit hesitant.
My head unit "pedigree" :
Pioneer DEH-P3300
Clarion DXZ-835MP
Alpine 9815
Alpine 9835
Current : Pioneer 5800 ( )
