Need to select some components

Thinking about purchasing a nice 6.5" Component set soon. I have heard good things about morel.. Would you recommend them?

The sound I want is crisp and clear at all volumes.. I do like playing my stereo for long periods of time and apparently the morels sound quite smooth and you don't get ear fatigue.

My budget is probably 400-500 for a decent set.. then need something that will be a good filler in the back.

I would like to install the tweeters in a good location, what would that be?

I have a Alpine MRP600 four channel amp.. it is rated 150w RMS @ 2ohm so I would like a speaker that runs at 2 ohm.

Not really sure what brand or even model to go with..

now for the subs..

Currently I have two US Amps Merlin MD2D's they are rated at 1500w RMS a piece.. So I have 3000w RMS to work with I was thinking about getting a pair of these subs:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-RE-AUDIO-MX12...item5adb590b46

They'd be thrown into a ported enclosure.. Probably in the range of a 3-4 cubic foot box as it's going into a trunk of a car that I still have to get. I get my N soon enough so now its time to get a car ..

I have to sell my 12" solo x's... they just didnt have any sq so that's why I kinda wanna get into some SQ.. If I can get loud and sound great at all volumes then I am all about it.

How about looking at something local? There's a Hertz/Audison/JL dealer in your town with some really nice speaker choices.

I would take Dukk's suggestion and go with something local, I have heard the Hertz line of speakers are very nice. Morel are nice speakers that are liked by some, but if you want "crisp" sounding speakers then look elsewhere as these speakers are not what you're looking for. In my opinion Morel are very overpriced for what you get.
I am not a big supporter of pre-assembled packaged components sets are they tend to be of lesser quality at higher prices than what you could put together yourself with a little research. In either case, you will want to keep your tweeters as close to your mids as possible, ie...Kicks are usually the best place as they allow the music to sum up nicely. Contrary to popular belief the A-Pillar is not a good place for a tweeter.
To say that you can get better SQ from one sub-woofer compared to another is a little far fetched considering you will play it @ 63Hz or below, preferably below 50Hz actually would be best. There is not much SQ below 50Hz, but that should be left for another thread.
Best case scenario is to go with a 4"-5" dedicated mid and tweeter in kicks with a 6.5"-8" in doors for mid-bass re-enforcement. Keep the subs you have now (even though the RE stuff is very nice) and forget about rear fill. Concentrate your efforts on the front stage and you will not be disappointed. GL with whatever you choose.

vrdublu I don't know why you just say Morels are over priced, They are one of the top leaders in speaker making in the world

They are not hand crafted for nothing.

Right, but just because I can hand craft something doesn't necessarily make it top notch... Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a set of Elates, but vrdublu is right that better sounding components can be had, especially when you get out of pre made kits.

OP, if I may suggest, go active. With the power out back rockin the lows, you'll want the extra power up front to keep pace and keep the sound crisp. Overhead is a good thing, too much will make that magic smoke (and not the fun kind )

Personally...since i've gone active, i would never go back. So with 500 to spend, i have to agree with the guys above and say you can get a lot more for your money if you get separate components and run them actively. For example: You can get 6" morel midranges that handle 150 watts rms with 3" voice coils for 122.00 each and 1.125" morel tweeters for 49.00 each...that's 350.00 plus shipping, duty, etc...for components that are way better than you can get in a comparatively priced set.

Or better yet you could get a pair of Hi-Vi D6.8 mids at Solen for $83 a piece, if you must have this kind of driver. It will perform just as well as the Morel driver only without the HD. If you need a tweeter try the Tang Band 25-1719S to pair with the mids I suggested, at $29 a piece they will blow just about anything in it's price range out of the water, particularly if you need off axis response. Grand total of $221+taxes=? You will not buy a better sounding two way pre-assembled system for this money. The combinations of speakers out there are endless, do a little research and you will be amazed with what you find. If it was me doing it again, I would try the Usher mids as I have heard they are truly great sounding speakers. Again, try listening to some speakers locally first to get an idea of what you like sound wise. Price of a speaker is not the determining factor of a speakers quality, your ears are.

How would you go about powering the speaker and the tweeter if you bought them separately.

Would you need to get a separate crossover or something of the sort?
