Need a Suggestion

I have a 2008 Accord Coupe V6 6 Speed, and im going to be running a Type R 12" Dual 2 Ohm Voicecoil sub in a fiberglass box off to the side. It's probably going to be a sealed box simply because of lack of airspace. Anyways, Im having a bit of trouble deciding on an amplifier to run this sub. I used to run 2 of these subs, hence buying the dual 2's instead of the 4. Im thinking of the alpine PDX series amps because of there size. Should I try running at 1 ohm or sticking to 4 ohm series hook-up? IS there any amps in the same size range as a PDX thats stable to 1 ohm?

I was debating just running a PDX 150.2 running in Stereo on the 2 coils.....

Thanks,

Terence

if you're using a PDX, it's the same power at 4 or 2ohms. Why wouldn't you run it at 4ohms? I'm assuming you're thinking of the 1.600. Sounds like a good match. Anytime you have the choice of either 4 ohm or 1 ohm with the same power...go 4ohm. Even if you can't hear it, the amp will run cooler as it delivers less amperage with the 4ohm...same power(through higher voltage) but less current flow...ergo cooler. Same reason the hydro company can send so much power through relatively small wires...high voltage, low amperage.

Do you have a budget on the amp? Lots to choose from. If you like the small chassis design, the Eclipse XA2000 is a ICEpower class D amp (the similar circuit design that Alpine uses) is on sale right now. It is rated at 300w rms x 1 into 4 ohm, the same as the Alpine amp is rated at. Your sub is rated to 500w rms at either 1 or 4 ohm, if you want it to operate that way, neither of these amps is recommended.

For a respectable and small Class D amp, the Bassworx BA500.1D has a 2 year replacement warranty and is rated to 500w rms into 1 ohm. This might be a better option for you.

^^sorry MR..you're incorrect, the Alpine has the same power at 2 or 4ohm...600 watts rms.

"PDX amplifiers have the unique capability to deliver the same power output regardless of 2Ω and 4Ω loads. This provides the ultimate in system flexibility and subwoofer configuration diversity."

I was looking at the only model # he posted, the 150.2. So yes I was correct. Yes I know that there are other amplifiers that Alpine makes and there is one that is also suited to the application.
