New To Car Audio. Help Please.

Hey, well I am 16, and just picked up my 1st car. 1977 Monte Carlo. So far, I have installed, 2 pioneer 6x9s in the rear behind the rear seats, and 2 more up front.
Anyways. my question.

So I am in search for a good deck. 4 outputs. I have seen many decks which are 200w, 4 outputs, so 50w each output/speaker.
Now, I was thinking, is it alright to run an Amp, off the deck, to my four 6x9s, to get more then just 50w's to them. I was thinking maby a 400w or 600w, if its safe. 100 / 150w to each speaker. All together, 150w or 200w to each speaker.
They are rated max, 220W.
So, is it possible ? will it sound good, what amp should I get, and what size.

Also, is it possible to get a little run down, on what alote of the things mean. 2ohms, 4ohms, bridging, etc.

Note: My 6x9s are Pioneer 4way. 220w max.

Thanks guys.

chances are they are 4ohms each..... and 220 watts maximum probably translates to 50-60 watts RMS... (a hu can produce around 20watts RMS)

So yes, adding a 4ch amp could be an improvment.... look for something that does 50-75 RMS x 4 @ 4ohms....

Yes, 60RMS.

What does RMS excatly mean ?

Edit. Aswell, are there different types of amps. I have been told, running an amp to your 6x9s is stupid, because amps are used strictly for subs, ( bass )

you can call me stoopid then

you can think of RMS power as the average power output... more/less equivalent to DC power...

Ah ok ok thanks. Understood.

I now need to find an amp that is 4ohms, 4output/4channel, and aprox 75w output to each, If I am correct.
Thanks,

whoever told you this is stupid haha. Its usually day and night differance going from deck power, to an amp on any decent aftermarked speakers

... you must have posted that one as I was posting my last reply, 4x75w RMS should be good for 4 6x9s
Is there any way you could find out the RMS ratings of your speakers??? thats the real rating you would want to know

My 6x9s say on the back.

220w Max Power
60w Nor. Power

Lastly, what does bridgeable mean ?
Does it mean like, you run the + from lets say your Right Rear, to the RR Positive, but the - to the LR of the amp ?

Any amp that is rated between 50 - 75w rms x 4 will do a good job for you. There is little to no difference on output levels in this power range. The $ you spend on the amp will determine the overall quality of the amp. What is your budget on a amp?

Bridgeable means that two channels can be combined into one larger channel or 4 channel in this case can be ran in two larger channels.
