new HU: suggestions?

The 9255 has an infinitely better D/A converter than the P9 - and as Mark pointed it, it just sounds better - and that is all that matters.
The 9255 used a 5-band parametric equalizer instead of a graphic EQ. They are independantly controllable for left and right channels.

I haven't heard the new 9255....what about the old one?
I still have one sitting here....I've been trying to sell it for a while now....I may just swap it in to my system for a while and listen to it.
Excellent deck....would require an outboard EQ

ive found a great deal on an Eclipse 3404. Its a simple HU, I'd use the front pre-out to a PPI eq/linedriver/crossover unit, and run the carputer through that as well.
Just want to know what the s/n ratios are on these eclipses- is the 3404 going to be as good there as the higher level ones?
It would be nice to have around 100 s/n
I know the PPI units are good, so noise shouldnt be introduced there.
edit: grabbed the spec sheets
S/N=90, thd=0.02, seperation=76db, range=90
comaring to the 8454 (sn=100, range=96, sep=85, 0.01 distortion)
would 90 be acceptable?

Thought I can't fathom why someone would by something based on numbers alone...
Those are well below average..
Clarion DRZ945 specs from July 2004 CA&E
S/N - >104dB
THD - <0.01%
Sep - >91dB
BUT, don't compare numbers, they mean nothing. Tube amps measure quite poorly in terms of damping and distortion, and people love the sound of those...
By Comparison...
X-file Audio XCD500 from April 2004 CA&E
S/N - >90dB
Dis - <0.07%
Sep - >63dB

Dave & Perry B - I agree completely. I went out today and listened to an Eclipse 3404. Not many features, but the sound was excellent in comparison to some of the other decks I tried on the same speakers on the demo floor.
This will prob. be my choice. No detach face sucks, but hey i usually dont detach my current one anyways
Thanks for the help, I'll let everyone know how it goes!
how about the Kenwood KRC-PS655 (cassette, non-fading pre-outs) and Kenwood KDC-C511 changer, with PPI Eq?
I can get an excellent deal on the changer/HU combo there, for around 60$ total! How are the old Kenwood Excelons? Havent had a chance to listen
Otherwise, itll be the PPI/Eclipse combo.
