If it's built by Scan, it's going to be good. And expensive!

The drivers look a little big for the average install though. If they decide to build a 4" version, I may just bump up from the Rev's.

The mid-bass looks like a space station from the TV show Deep Space 9

I remember hearing something like $800+ per pair.

Very well engineered drivers, to be certain, but there are a number of products that will approach them at significantly lower prices.

Can you name a few? I havent head them so I can't comment on their performance. But my ears tell me that the Revs are about the best sounding mids around. So IF these are an upgrade, I would be very interested in a listen.

Well first of all, we don't know exactly how they will perform, although you and I are almost assuredly in agreement that these will be premier drivers. I, too, am a fan of the Revelators...some of the absolute best speakers on the planet and infinitely more workable than the Seas Excel series which I also enjoy. Perhaps one of the best "almost there" lines are the Peerless Exclusive drivers, which would be about 1/5th the price. There is no bass or midbass in a 7" driver that I have heard like the CSS SDX7, although there are some bandwidth limitations up top. There's more but that's not the point.

Let it be clear that I said "approach." In high-end drivers, the difference in price is rarely a linear relationship with the difference in performance. For the most part, people will be extremely satisfied with products substantially less expensive than these drivers.

The real problem is that they are only available to OEM's or those who order over 100 units. That means we'll be seeing a lot of them in high end finished kits in the near future, but it also means those of us who DIY are unfortunately waiting with bated breath.

Yes they look cool but where are you going to put them??? way to big for car audio application IMO, unless you plan on building a whole car around a set of speakers!
