New system...comments welcome
Out of curiosity...I have 2 premier 8" shallow mount subs kickin around and was toying with the idea of going 3 way in the front with the shallow mounts in the back doors.
What benefits if any would I get by going with 4" and 6.5" focals in the front doors (3 way) with the 8's in back as opposed to just going 2 way with 5.25's in the front and 6.5s in the back?
Or is that just a plain ol' bad idea....

You didn't mention what vehicle this is all going into, but ditching the rear speakers in a smallish coupe or sedan will let more bump in from the trunk as well....

Actually, going with a 3way active setup in the front is a great idea.....an 8" midbass, 5.25 or 6.5" midrange and a tweeter in your doors will probably eliminate your desire for rearfill period.....

I have to agree on the rear fill. This is my first car with no rear speakers other than subs and I do not miss them at all.
But will they be redundant if I use a 4" and a 6.5" in the front and the 8's in the back, considering there will be a 12 in the trunk? And seeing as it will be an active setup, crossed by the head unit...what effect will crossing the 8's at the same point as the sub have on the overall sound? I'm guessing mixing active and passive crossovers is a no no for phasing and so on...man if I had as much brains as I have ambition...
The car is a 2001 Audi S4 by the way.

If you already have a subwoofer, I wouldn't bother putting those' 8's in the back.
If you already have all the speakers then slap them in. If you are about to buy, then I recommend focusing on a good component set (6.5) in front and good amps, don't worry about rear fill.
