These are the speakers I have monuted on the rear deck of my car. The mids and highs are good enough for me but when they try to pump out the low frequencies they are really distorted which I guess is expected from these speakers. What can I do to stop the speakers from putting out the lower frequencies? My deck has no built in equalizer or crossovers. I have read about passive crossovers but have no clue on how to install them and exactly how they work.

if i was you i would buy a amp. so much better sounds come out of speakers that have a amp!
deck has no pre-outs?
1. get rid of the deck
2. buy a amp!
im still a newbie myself but im not sure if u can wire a deck to the amp and than hook the speakers up. im not really sure, but there are some great ppl on here that can answer the questions far better than me. im new to this game!
good luck though.

It has one pre-out so If I'm going to install a sub I would only be able to install the one amp for the sub, right? Thanks for the suggestions.

But to answer the original question, yes, you can stop the low end from going to your speakers, even if they're run off a cheap deck.
You can buy and install your own 200 uF caps, or go to any car audio store, or big box store or probaly sheaper at WalMart, and get some caps.
I think Scoshe call the 'speaker savers".
It also stops your amp from wasting power at the low end, so your highs won't be as distorted.
I think i've got some old ones left over.
