Why would you say that? CDT says its a "virtual 60db" slope, some sort of 6db slope and 24db slope put together.

I have no idea if the 5WS works in a bass reflex box...I've heard it in infinite baffle(doors of a Grand Prix) and a sealed box...it plays down to 20HZ, has tons of output, especially for a 5" sub and it's so damn accurate.

I've heard 8's that don't sound nearly as good as the 5WS.

I agree however, that a 10 would sound better, but I gotta figure out how much room I have to play with first...or I might go with a set of those ED 8's that Dukk has...or was it Dodgeram?
Well you know the ones I mean.

I'll throw in my 2 cents that by using an electronic crossover, you also increase the available headroom in your amps, because you're not splitting up the frequencies after the output stage, but rather before. Hence, logically you would be using 2 amps.

In a budget situation like this it may be within reason to use passives instead.

Well, money is the biggest issue, and the comp set comes with passives so it's not like it'll cost extra for them. I've never used passives in any system I've had so I don't know what to expect, but every home speaker I've had, including my new set of Wharfedales, has passives and they sound great.

But obviously if money wasn't an issue the system would use a 4XS or some kind of active X-Over.

The last issue is sub(s). I suppose it would be best to just use the crossover on the amp rather than screw around trying to find a passive for them.

From what I recall, the 5WS is designed for a ported encl.... and wouldn't go much below 45hz when I played with it. I tried it sealed, went lower, lost tons of output.

The older 5KX was designed for sealed enclosures, but I never got play with one of those.

That's how I remember it anyhow, but it was a while ago.

lightning eh? I've done several installs in them.
I like your deck Idea, the 560 eq-clarion would be a nice match.. check ebay there cheap and really a nice unit, been running mine 3 years now.

even has axu input if you want to run playstation later or dvd ect.
doors will easily hold 6 1/2, check out qforms, they make a kick panal thats colour matched and pretty good for imaging, just sound deaden for gods sake.
cab that size really could do alot with one nice 10"sub. some have put in 2 12's ect but its to much for my taste.

if he has any other questions just go to.

Lol, he likes Led Zepplin and Johny Cash, 2 12's would be WAY overkill for him.

1 10 should be lots of sub for him. I've also just thought of another subs that would probably work really well in that truck....the new MBQuarts.

Should work well but who knows. Only thing I'm worried about is price.

Wade...the 5WS's that are in the Gran Prix right now are crossed over from like 200Hz and down if I'm not mistaken, and the subs are crossed over at 40Hz and down or something along those lines.....so, those 5WS's are playing most of the subbass in the freeair set-up in the doors, which is obviously to keep the bass up front where it should be.

That sounds like a better application for a speaker of that type. I'm guessing their response in the midbass department would be a little stronger. I'd be curious to see what that sounds like.

They kick ***.

there like having 15's in your doors output wise, and there as accurate as the best 8's.

But they work best in free air from the cars I've heard with them.

The grand Prix has em in the doors as a free air set-up and Bubba's monte carlo has them in the kicks beside the 5.25's and the monte just doesn't sound the same...it has much weaker midbass...I find anyway.

If you ever get a chance to listen to Jay's Grand Prix do it....he had the best sounding car in huntsville for the finals qualifier and it's my personal favourite car to listen to.
