Placing tweeters in factory location

So I have a little problem here.
I won a used set of alpine type-r components on ebay.
Im pretty sure it's an open box model since the company that I bought it from is the place that resell's open box / returned items. Anyways I won the components for $56 bucks and tested that they work. BUT i am missing the hardware to mount my tweeters ...

I did find out that the alpine tweeter fits in the same place as the factory tweeter in the corner of the dash board by the windshield. Now would that be an ideal place to place tweeters in a component set? This would reduce any fabrication or cutting/drilling I would have to do to my panel's ... but what about the actual sound quality from the placement?

Here is where the tweeters are, ignore the ugly fabric that was placed on them

It may/may not be ideal, but its a good looking spot to stick them... I have an older set of Type R's and once you remove all the plastic, the actual tweeter is not all that large

The only hardware my tweeter has is a machine screw and a small metal bracket/clip

Not ideal, but then cars aren't ideal locations for listening to music. If you're willing to do some work (won't be too much if you just surface mount them), you can mount them close to the mids and get better sound. I would try both locations first (use silly putty or double sided tape) to determine if it's worth it as far as your ears are concerned.

Try it and see. I had similar setup with tweets in the corner an liked it, no harshness.

Yeah, I've had lots of different locations in many cars that were not ideal, but some of them sounded very good and i couldn't have been bothered to custom mount them. Actually, in one of my current cars, the sail panels sound the best with the tweeters aimed directly (the mid's oem location is pretty good though with them forward and midway up the door..so not too far from the tweets..about 16"). I actually like it better than the "ideal" location next to the mid as I find it more ambiant sounding up highter. Anyway, try out different locations until you find the one you like best then mount it permanently.

Personally I like the tweeters up higher, But if you have a cheaper set of components you will most likely get hearing fatigue.

I used to have a set of Infinity Reference 6.5 Components and the fatigue was horrible. They were over priced for what they produce.

Now if you have a nice set of Components this shouldn't be a problem. I don't have any problems with fatigue using Morel speakers.

With the tweeters mounted up high like that you might end up with a phase problem, Which I am having right now and I don't feel like taking off the door panel until I get an amp installed next year.

With the tweeter bouncing off the windshield it might be good, I've seen some installs like this before.

Good luck and tell us how it sounds! Make sure you listen very closely and listen to all types of music to see if there are any problems.

So I just popped the cover off and took the stock tweeter out. The alpine type r tweeter went in very easily and no extra glue or anything was required, which was good !

I dont have an amp that is ideal for my component set. But I will be testing it quickly later with a 50w amp ... well 50w per channel...

The problem is that this is my first set of components. Im not exactly a car audio guru, so I probably wont be noticing much other than clearer music. I dont kno what to look out for when mounting etc. aka im a noob.

What should I be looking out for?

And will it be good to test just the tweeters and not the woofers? I dont have time now to rip the door apart and I havent ordered my dynamat and other stuff.

Ask the expert and compare the idea!

So far in my 20years of having sounds on my vehicle. I could not deny we encounter harshness and defective tweeters on our panel board. But what makes good now a days...is so much high tech than before. And you can ask opinion through the site and surf all over it. But what most important thing aside from research over the net what;s the best solution.

Please see your technician first in the company where you brought your car. I know it is unique where ever you put your gadgets. But I'm sure we have different overview and likes. So if you could see the technician or the expert they enlighten your mind and you can learn something from them.

Be careful here. The stock tweeters likely had a capacitor attached right to them. Your Type R's likely came with outboard passive crossovers and you need to use them to protect the tweeters from lower frequencies.
