They do look pretty mean, how much do the doors rattle outside the car?

Time comsuming YES!!!!
I rubbed these panels more than my fiance....she's glad to see it go to the paint shop finally.

K...Back in January, we skinned the doors

Installed power windows and locks, shaved the handles, etc
Lid down glass for the back of the boxes
Made a mould of the bottom edge of the stock panel, and used that to form the edge of the box....wanted to retain the OEM mounting screw cutouts
Moulded some ports outa glass...used blister plastic and hot glue to make a form, then glassed over that, peeled out the plastic for a mirror smooth surface inside the ports
Made some rings, placed the ports

Stretched over the panels
Panels were screwed back on the door at every step to minimize warping

A lot of sanding, and fine edge construction to get the box a perfect fit to the top of the stock panel, and we got a ported door.

This is the trunk lid mounted amps, and cover

Here's the 7" screen in a flip out mount in the pass air bag...you can see the top tweeter mounting hole...another set to go in...not sure where yet.

And this is the car, body kit finally fitted, on the way out the door after a long 5 months

Still have a week or so of refinishing on the interior panels, but they should be done when the car comes back...a week to assemble the puzzle, get all the bells and whistles working, and then I can say good bye to my friend the PowerPlant.

Waste of time...yeppers...lots and lots and lots of time...
Would I do it again...in my own car for sure...doubt anyone would want to pay the 4-5k per door I'd have to charge to make it profitable to do.
The boxes are rock solid...don't weigh too much, and they doo rattle the car...not from them vibrating tho...they're just freakin low, and loud!
The upper panel will need a pound or two of dum-dum, I'm sure to toughen it up, but the door itself is heavily damped already...matt, and lots of rocker guard.

Was it worth it?? I sure learned a lot doing it, and I've never heard bass like that from a pair of 6s in a door before...I guess we'll see if we get to some shows, just how good it really is.

Spent a week researching if it was a good idea, figuring out how to get the T/S paramters of the drivers, trying them in the resulting box designs, verifying my results thru listening tests in the showroom, and then figuring out how to go about actually building them...not much help out there, as not many have actually done it.
Tuned to around 63 hz if memory serves...the actual design sheets are long gone. Box is around .6.....there's a discussion/post from January with the details if you want to search for it. I have no need as I will not be duplicating this combo again.
Have to say it took a bit of a leap of faith to try it. Made sense technically, but was not an easy task to accomplish. I hope the effort will persuade the next guy to build on these ideas, and come up with a faster , better method to achieve even more results....These are by no means the upper end of components being used....they're good value, IMO, but the retail on each component set is only $239.....imagine what they'd sound like with a pair of IDs, Focals or the like in a similar box...oh yeah...you haven't heard these ones yet!!!!so you can't compare... Just wait!
Looks like June 23rd is the unveiling date....a month late, and I hope worth the wait for the customer.
