power wire for subwoofer

I have some left over 8 guage power wire from some work that I had to do on my car. I was thinking about using it to connect my subwoofer. The wire is braided copper. In comparison with typical car audio power cables the braided wire is much thicker (not solid like home wiring). Is this alright to use on my sub or will it cause problems. If so I will get some wire from a local dealer.

No, it's the same type of wire used in jumper cables, where typical power and/or speaker cable has wire with a very small diameter braided to make one large wire, this wire has significantly larger individual wire braided to make one large wire.

ofcourse it'll work! It's copper wire..hell any decent conductor will work fine, 8awg may be a bit overkill for most applications, but if you have it...why not use it.

Hell you can use solid copper if you want. Will try to find the thread of the guys BMW with the 4 focal subs in the tire well wired with solid copper rods.
