Replacing Speakers In Ford Ranger

Hi there....I want to replace the factory speakers in my 2009 Ford Ranger four door. I know it takes 6 x 8's. I have a budget of about $150 for speaker replacement. I want to eventually one day replace the head unit but right now I will start with the speakers. I have some questions and if anyone can help me out here it will be greatly appreciated.

1- Does it make a difference whether I get 5x7's or 6x8's?

2- Should I bother to replace the back speakers? Will it make a difference?

3- The speakers I have narrowed it down to are the following:
Kicker DS 680's
Kenwood KFC-6893PS
Pioneer- TS-G6842R
Boss 5x7's (Cheapies @ Wal Mart- around $50 for 2 pairs)

4- Anyone know of any other place that sells speakers other than Best
Buy or Future Shop in the Vancouver area or online that is reasonable.

Thanks
Mike

I have some great speakers and they are on clearout right now. I can hit the $160.00 mark including tax and shipping on two pairs of Pioneer 5x7" speakers or hit the $180 + tax and shipping mark on two pairs of Eclipse 5x7" speakers. I am more than a reasonable seller and my feedback on i-trader here on the forum is 100% +, feel free to check my feedback. The Pioneer speakers sound decent, they are new with warranty albeit a discontinued model now.

Both sizes of speakers will indeed fit your vehicle. You do not have to replace the rear speakers. Personally I like rear speakers and I would replace them in my own vehicle.

You will hear the difference if you upgrade the fronts and leave the rears stock instead of vice versa. And I bought a pair of 6x8 pioneers for my ranger for about 190, and they were out preformed by the 5x7 exiles i bought after. Who woulda figured that?

Anyways.... i suggest the eclipse speakers he is offering waaay more than i would suggest the pioneers. And then save up for a half decent deck on clearance from 2 years ago, because it will improve the sound coming out of the speakers greatly if your ranger deck was anything like my ranger deck.

I wish I'd seen the message sooner.....I ended up buying a great set of Polk Audio's and got a steal of a deal on a Sony Explode deck WITH the i-pod cable for $55 including s/h and taxes off of Best Buy's website.....I still want to...down the road...get rear speakers. I am totally impressed with my system now....much better than the stock stuff. The stereo turned out to be a Pioneer unit. Was not impressed with it at all.....Thanks for the replies......

I woudlnt doubt you still want the rears, lots of people do. my personal opinion would be spend 200 bucks on a small 2 channel amp and amp the front speakers you have now and leave the rears on the deck. Im sure most people would agree here that amping the polks within power range they have, will sound much nicer than spending the money on rear speakers and still be running of the deck. You could by a 4 channel that could power fronts and rears for the future and then amp the rears too if you really wanted to. But again, i had a 4 channel and 4 coaxial speakers in my ranger aswell. After deciding to try out bridging the amp to 2 channels to power the front speakers and leave the rears on the deck..... the sound was muuuuuuucccchhh better. So much better that not long after that i removed the rear speakers altogether because they didnt make any sound difference on or off. THen again i was in a singlecab and they were just firing into the back of the seats....
