sealed door enclousres
I would like to know if anyone has any experience with Morel midbass drivers, specifically MW160's.
I have a pair of these 8ohm drivers mounted freeair in my nissan pickup doors, and find that they do not have the punch i need to get from them (bigtime compression). The speakers are getting 100wrms each and are actively bandpassed - Hp 50hz @24db, lp 300hz 18db. Any relevant info on custom sealed door enclosures would be helpful!

Morel USA doesn’t make a MW-160 Dynaudio does (Morel makes a MW-164, 166, 167, and 168). The Morel 164 has a wonderfully flat response from 100-2000 Hz but only 85db/w sensitivity (they rate it at 88 db/w but the graph tells a different story).
You have interesting crossover points that kind of eliminate most of the drivers operating range so I am not too surprised with the lack of punch. A little back pressure will help with the speed but ... you may be cheating yourself under 200 Hz with the steep crossover and the low crossover point.
Just my opinion I would consider crossing at 80 Hz and 2000 Hz if possible they appear to be a great midrange with very good midbass.

morel used to make a mw160 many years ago, i used them in a few vehicles but stopped due
to low sensitivity, johnny's advice on a slightly higher crossover point will help, if you canthe seal box .25-.35 will yield better results than ib and give better excusion control, try the x-over point 80-100hz

Yeah they are pretty old, i'll have to double check the model #'s. Being that the x-over for the highpass in this setup is off the deck, I can change it at a whim, and find the lower point to be better sounding, stronger front bass focus etc. I don't mind that they don't wail. They are paired with a 4" and tweet, and bi-amped for sq (perhaps pertinent info...oops!). I can however confirm that low sensitivity though. Thanks for your answers guys!
well, defro... I run an Alpine deck with the hp set for my entire front stage, I split this signal in my old-school Eqx with the chip set to 300hz high/low (I believe 18db)to a pair of 2 channel amps, 150wrms to my kick panel set of Phoenix zeropoint 4" component (that would be 300hz hp, however, I am using them off the full range for the time being because they can handle it) and 200wrms lowpass (now a bandpass based upon the input being hp already) to my morels.
I almost lost myself there...I won't even start on the dash top tweeters. My main goal is solid up-front bass, hence my origional question. Thanks
