here's what i got:
JL TR350-CXi in the front... 3.5" low end JLs
Alpine CDM-9801... its got preamp out for the sub

here's what i am getting:
alpine MRP350... 350w@2ohm RMS
two JL 10W0 subs

question: would they sound better in ported or sealed?
i'm in a 1990 cutlass ciera. i'm assuming i'll have to do some serious sound dampening to get rid of the bizzing at the rear end. I listen to classic rock and hip hop

thanks for any help
peace

Go ported. I believe they need about 1.1cu. ft.

Check the JL site for box suggestions.

how big of a difference does ported make? since they're in the trunk anyway... tho the rear deck is thin and aside from the seats the only thing beteween the trunk and the cabin

whats the main difference between the two?

Use the search function regarding ported vs. sealed. It will be much quicker.

Hope this helps.
BTW, I've heard the 10w0 both sealed and ported and ported is the way to go.

Considering this is the SQ corner of the board. I'm going to say sealed. But, not everybody is going to agree because it deppends on the driver.

Dukk is biased, but right.

i ended up getting a 10" type S dual voice coil with an MTX amp.

i am probably gonna go with sealed but i did a search on sealed vs ported posts and on all of them the majority says ported is by far the way to go. the thing is they all say "only if its tuned correctly"

whats the "correct" way to design and tune a ported enclosure?

but how does one tune a box to 35hz.

the instructions only say recommended sealed box volume .6~1.25 f^3
no diagrams or plans or anything

A 1.5 cube box, tuned to 35hz should have a single 4" port, around 15.75" long, I believe.
