SI MagD2 12" @ 4 ohms vs Focal 33kx @ 2 ohms

Hello all! I want to hear your thoughts on this matter. SQL only. I think SQ is very similar. Not sure about the output. However Mag is @ 4 ohms, and Focal is at 2 ohms. Both on appx 800 wrms.

My story: I have the Mag now on Fosgate Punch 800.2 @ 4 ohms. I just bought Arc Audio KAR 900.1, and have an option to get Focal 33KX and run it @ 2 ohms on this Arc amp. My other option is to get two 12" IDQ's @ 2ohms and run them on Arc also. I don't think I want to run the Mag @ 1 ohm. May be too dirty, and too much stress on the alt(120 amps), as I have Kicker SX600.2 for my fronts.

Please help me decide, but stick to the options at hand. Cost is not an issue here.

Thanks in advance!

Well for starters the 33KX is a dual 2ohm driver which means you'll be running it with an amp at 4ohm or 1ohm.

Both are very good sounding drivers. Your ears and requirements are going to be the deciding factor here. Do you want to go sealed or ported? If you're planning on going ported go with the Mag.

Why are you thinking about a change? The IDQ's are great sounding drivers also but again it's your ears and your material.

All three scenarios have the potential for excellent SQ. As for output I would say the two IDQ's ported and properly powered, followed by the Mag ported and properly powered, followed by the Focal.

A lot of thanks to those who finally replied!!! Just needed some feedback.

I ran the sets up and these were the results without going into too much detail. All were given 800 wrms. All ported.

All set ups had very nice SQ. Two IDQ's had a bit more SPL at moderate listening levels, but if pushed harder did not hold their ground. Started to distort, and bottom out a bit. Focal maintained excellent SQ throughout all volumes, but had the least SPL of three set ups. The Mag maintained amazing SQ throughout, and pounded harder than Focal. A bit less output than two IDQ's at moderate volumes, but when pushed loud and hard, it just laughed and wanted more. Zero distortion. Mag could not be matched at loud volumes. A clear winner for me. I am keeping it. I did not know how good this sub is until recent tests. I think Mag may take 1500 watts with ease. I love it!!!

I place these set ups in this order:

1. Mag D2
2. Focal 33KX
3. 2 IDQ's

BTW Mag was a clear winner. Not a very close race. Almost not fair
