Sound Quality Automobile

i just got this crazy idea in my head recently. i feel like i want to completely gut the interior of a vehicle and make a totally custom interior/install geared towards nothing but SQ maybe SQL.

i would like some opinions on what type of vehicle i should be after, or even more specific...what vehicle i should use.

by totaly custom interior im talking about no factory panels left. only what is needed to drive the vehicle from A to B, and nothing other then enclosures, acoustic treatments and installation.

i plan to use some of my current equipment, and get some new pieces as well

Old school cars are the best IMHO. Long, narrow interiors are perfectly suited to car audio. Like a grand national body type.

Sounds like fun!

If you're going to those lengths already, why not consider a center drive... so much easier acoustically speaking. Not sure you could get it certified road worthy though, perhaps as a kit vehicle?

Cool project. Love to see the build pics

since this would be a complete custom interior does it realy make a differance as to what vehicle to use?
i say get what you like and find affordable and go for it! this creates more of a challenge for you and a rush for us to watch..

btw this is an idea i have been kicking around for a bit. all since watching some of the builds here. should prove very interesting

good luck

I agree. Removing the interior from the car equation opens up a lot of options.

I would still look for a larger sedan with a decent size trunk and well raked windshield. T-Birds and Regals are good candidates.

Mid 90's Monte carlo/ Lumina 2 door. low seating poition, large doors, great open footwells for kickpanels. pretty flat dash, great windshield rake...now find one that still runs,,,

^ yeah no doubt. I loved my Z34 but dropping 5large in repairs every year got tiring

I also found that I sat too far forward too even with the seat all the way back, but that would be easy enough to change.
