i bought a new deck (KDC-MP4028 23rms max volume 40) and my speakers (15rms alpines) didnt sound right so I bought new ones (Infinity REF3012CF 25 rms 85hz-21khz) as soon as the installed these i heard a cracking or kinda static sounds at loud notes when the volume was around 16-22. when its quiter i cant here the sound at all and when its louder i can still barely hear the sound but the music drowns it out. i tested both speakers before i screwed them down and they made this sound, i thought it might fade over time but it hasnt improved. the wiring hasnt been replaced so im wondering if that might be it or could it be some wires are too close together and causing the sound from electromagnetic waves? also i only play of wma cds and maybe that could have something to do with it, plz help.

 

Well if your old alpines didn't sound right and now your new ones don't sound right, it may be your deck. Have you tried a normal CD?

 

could be that the wire is damaged, but electrowaves aren't going to do that. Like smartass said best guess would have to be the deck.

 

Have you tried turning the bass down, as well as turning the loudness control off. I leave my bass control at 0 and the loudness is always off. Often it seems these types of speakers do not handle lower frequencies well and bottom out. A capacitor in series would filter out the lows, might be all you need. 4 ohms, 100Hz, you would need about a 400uF capacitor for each speaker. Something to consider if your system sounds better with the bass control down and the loudness off. Might have to crank up your sub amp gain though since you'll be removing alot of bass from the entire system (if you have a sub that is).

So...... the Alpine didn't sound right and the new deck also don't sound right. Could it be maybe the speaker wiring are out of phase with each other?

BTW: What's the car ?? what music are you playing?

 

Was the cracking sound happening before the new deck was put in?

 

Sounds like you may have an intermitent short in a speaker wire between the deck and speaker(s). Maybe upgrade the speaker wires and make sure they're not in proximity to sharp metal edges inside the door or inside the dash or where they go through into the door. Tape off sharp edges with electical tape and make sure the wires are going through rubber grommets anywhere they go through metal. Also make sure your speaker terminals are not coming into any contact with metal inside the door.

When I first got into car audio I had this problem and it was the wires and speaker terminals shorting out to metal.

Did you test it on the bench or in the same setup?

u could start by unplugging the spr connection at the deck, and use a multi meter to check if any of the wires are common to chassis ground or common to each other.

 

This leads me to believe you have your bass up, and/or your LOUD on. The 3012CF is a 3.5" midrange with tweeter - it should not get ANY bass at all. Add a 100uf or even 50uf cap to each speaker or if your deck has a built in crossover, high pass those speakers at at least 150-200hz at 12db or better.

Also - on any Alpine deck I have tested, the internal amp starts to clip at half volume at most so you are right at the limit there too.

 

sorry for the delay but been busy and such...well i remember with the old deck it had similar sounds, but not quite the same. I just assumed cause i was playing way too loud for too long(with the old not the new). So far i have only done two things, tried a new cd and screwed around with the equalizer. The reg audio cd made no difference, but on radio i dont hear the static sound at all( assuming this is because radio has crappy sound to begin with). When i screwed around with the equalizer turning each thing down seperately. i turned base down all the way(no dif) then turned mid down all the way(no dif) then i turned treble down all the way and the sound pratically disapeared. Next im gonna run speaker wire straight from the deck to the speaker without going through the dash and see if that helps and if it does problem solved.
and to aswer other questions
loud was off and bass was down to 0 at -8 to 8 scale, i tested it in the same setup, car is 89 cavaleir and i play metal and rock kinda music
