SQ on an Audison LRX 5.1
#12
Wow, I've never heard of someone describing Audison like that, I am afraid to ask what the Srx series sound like? I was thinking about going that route but maybe not now. Looking for something musical if that means anything without spending thousands.

the Srx line sounds great. I run a Lrx 2.500 and couldn't be happier. Never heard anything negative about any Audison amps so don't let a few opinions sway your decision. Many many people swear by them so a few negatives don't mean much to me. Let your own ears be the judge

I am hopping that with bi-amping the MLK's and getting some good tuning happening, I will get more of a warmer and broader staging with good dynamics (like to hear the harmonics in string instruments, the breathing of horns and sax's, and so on and so on).

Now thats an interesting statement (too dry and lacks dynamics) as I've just purchased the LRx 4.1 to replace a Hertz in the Explorer thats only several weeks old, (will be put in this week). I was looking to warm up the MLK 165's. Hope I haven't made another mistake in amp purchases.

Install:
Custom Concepts took over the install from a brave but failed attempt by Vernon's Andre's Audio and redid the woofer mounts, matting and sound deadening. Ferdinand and Brent of Custom have a passion about quality and they delivered in spades.
The HU unit is a Pioneer AVIC Z2 and Ferdinand took advantage of the separate rear speaker outputs to manage the woofers and dedicated the front outputs to the tweets. This allowed the flexibility to balance the outputs if needed between the components (turns out it wasn't needed as he was able to leave the HU outputs centered (fader) and the EQ flat). He reran high end RCA's back to the Audisson LRx 4.1 and upgraded same to the crossovers. Bi-amping the components gave him a lot of options on tuning the components via the crossovers for what is a difficult install (Ford Explorers are not that easy to compensate for when trying to build a good SQ platform). The MLK165's crossovers truly shine in this regard.
Going forward over the next few weeks we will install a Hertz Hi-Energy woofer with a Hertz amp to complete the bottom end. This is a custom install as Concept will be putting (stuffing) the amp and sub-woofer back into the stock location (albeit with some serious metal work).
Costs to date: over 6k.
Results to date: I am a very happy customer as it comes to what I wanted to achieve in SQ for this vehicle. What did it take to accomplish this. Great products, an unbelievably good installer, patience. The system delivers on so many levels. Its warm and clear like a class 'A' tube system when required (Carole King and James Taylor - Live at the Troubadour, Santana Supernatural Live, BB King - Live in Montreaux) and in your face dynamics and response when demanded (John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers - 70th Birthday Concert, Tina Turner - Live in Amsterdam) I could go on and on.
Can it get better - sure. Have I reached the Nirvana of sound systems - nope. But damn I am really close. Already looking at was announced at CES 2011. Getting excited about a full digital system.
Thanks to all you folks for your patience and help in this adventure and for those looking at the MLK165 - bi-amp!

My 2c though, IIRC they're on commission so the more crap they sell you the more money the salesman gets, which is a good reason to avoid shops like that.
Always compare prices, if you're paying 50% more than Ebay, that's you getting the warranty and all the trimmings with whatever you buy, if it's 500% more that's them ****ing you over.

lies !! the best sounding amp ive heard lately was a audison so i bought a lrx 1.1k after running a rockford/ and a kenwood excelon x1200m and a clarion dpx 11500 and a hertz 2200d/ and then i ran the audison lrx 1.1k all in a month and there was a noticeable difference in the sound quality hertz was a close second maybe only cause it was a class d . but everyone is different so go with what u like personally i don't think you will find a better 5 channel amp. ps go for the hx 300d thats the high energy sub if u take the plastic off the back it wont be much deeper than the energy and sounds light years better trust me!!!!
