SQ Car

just wondering what peoples thoughts are on what would be a good platform to use as a competition vehicle.

most vehicles used are sedans and some hatchbacks.
bass is easier to come by in a hatchback.

anyways....my mind isnt made up so what are your thoughts.

I'm curious as to how well a Chevy HHR panel would perform.

Mmmmm that cookie looks gooood....

Anyways, if I were to build another sq car it would probably be an early 90's accord or civic. If it's a sedan make sure the rear seats fold down.

A good competition car is:

Sounds good from the factory
one with plenty of room
has room for kicks
has room for drivers in the door
has room for drivers in the A-pillar
has room for amps
has room for a big battery or multiple batteries
has a good, and dry, electrical system
has the ability from the factory to be disassembled and reassembled multiple times
hatchbacks seem to have some advantages in the bass production

HHR sounds pretty good and has a quiet cab, has challenges with door speaker location though

I dont think there are any hard rules on buying an SQ car. There are just too many variables in a car. When I bought my car, I made sure it had a clean dash and a minimal center console. I've used coupes and hatches. Each has had there advantages.

Just get a car you like and work around it.

I did an install this year on a 92 mercedes, and it was by far the best sounding system, I bypassed the factory amp and it was just running off of deck power, but the accoustics in the car were unreal.

My idea of a great sq car consists of a large kick area and has door speakers.

The dash should be flat or at least symmetrical since I like my tweets up there usually. Large a-pillar covers are nice.

I'm not a big fan of the "ski hole" that a lot of cars have I'm a fan of the fold down rear seats.

Lastly, I LOVE center consoles that are high when I'm driving, however, a low console or no console at all is much more conductive to SQ.

So basically....all that taken into consideration, for me at least, Grand Prix's, Regals, Impala's and bigger cars like that are my ideal SQ cars....oh, and one more reason....because the front doors are big and heavy, they usually make wicked midbass enclosures.

That's just my preference, lots of people have done quite well with small cars too. I'm a pretty big guy at 5'11, I like bigger cars or SUV's/trucks, so my ideal vehicle would be one of those....but like I said, you can make just about anything work.

I'm with BMW5. If I was choosing a platform to build an SQ car on it would be an early 90s Accord or, more likely, an 88-91 Civic hatch.
