I have usually had pretty good luck tuning around 30-35hz.

You put the crossover point where it needs to be! It is often system/ car unique. A set of mids that go low and sonically match well with the woofer a Xover point of maybe 50 Hz as long as there isn’t cancellation in the crossover region. For another system with either a strong midbass or a weak midbass a crossover of 80 or 120 Hz may be appropriate.

Some cars can be very problematic with freq response. I have been finding a lot of issues with peaks at 50 Hz (ported subs), the 100 Hz region (xover) and overall suckout at 200 Hz too.

I think, oh, about 2 or 3 threads ago, someone wisely suggested that you measure the box, before asking any more questions.

How high is up?

3" port 9" long, should be OK.
You'll need a SS Filter as power handling drops to 65 watts below 28Hz.

I think you'd really be better off sealed with that box.
