Stereo Setup/package? Comments

Hey Everyone,

So i've finally found a 2002 Civic SIR... It took alot of time and a out of province inspection to find a good one! haha

So.. it's time to start thinking Stereo..SQ. During my downtime, i try and do as much research as possible. I have an idea what I want to do, but i have a few concerns and i'd like to receive some feedback. For some items i dont have specific model #'s and i'm primarily lookin for SQ.

HeadUnit: Kenwood Excelon DNX6960 - I like this unit because it has physical controls rather than just touch screen, bluetooth, GPS, etc.... I've heard good things about Kenwoods Multimedia units, however i've read mix reviews. I've personally worked with this unit before and I find the same issues that people write about. It's super slow! I'm not sure about SQ, but i guess i'll have to comprimise if it want a big screen, ipod connection, XM radio.. etc. Does anyone have any other suggestions for multimedia units... to be honest this is really the only one i've demo'd in detail. I'm not a big fan of the slow processing.

Front Speakers: Focals 165K3P or 164VR3 - 3 way speakers - I've always wanted focal speakers so i may be somewhat biased, but they are some of the best?! I'm just not sure of which one, there's is a substantial price difference....

Rear Speakers: These speakers are gonna just be slight filler, so 6x9's. I might keep it with focal or some nakamichi's.... for the record I have a soft spot for Nak's from my past Civic HB

Amps: Nakamichi PA-1500 (Sub) PA-4100 (speakers).... So the big problem with Nakamichi... bloody hard to find! Like i said before, i have a soft spot for nak's and I really want to keep some in this system. Anyone know where I can find naks? If it's as difficult as it's prooving, then my second choice would be audison but for a higher price. I'd also like to incorporate an audison processor regardless of amp manufacturer. The processor isn't essential, but if there's room in budget, i'll get it in there.

Sub: Nakamichi SPW-1210 - Again, want to get some nak's in there. It seems the sub is easier to find. I want to sink this into the car with no box, so basically where the spare tire is.

Aside from these components, i'll be deadening the car and i need to get a laser jammer. Any suggestions for a jammer?

I'd appreciate any feedback! thanks!

I wouldn't use rear fill in this car. It's a small hatchback and if you're going for SQ, it's better to forget them

I was thinking about not having rear speakers.... I had them in my old civic. I sat in a car with major SQ 3-way speakers up front but i still felt i needed something in the rear. Even if it was super slight.

is nak really the same quality it used to be? i recall reading in multiple places that the company focuses primarily outside of car audio nowadays.

quality aside, if they are that hard to find, how hard do you think it will be to get good dealer/warranty support for their products.

focal is indeed awesome. however awesome they are though, until you have actually heard them in-car, don't get hung up on always wanting them. there are plenty of other brands with similar offerings that may be better suited for your ears.

i'd also recommend saving the money on rears, in addition to the amp channels being saved, by not including them.
the longer i went without rears, the more i realized i didn't need or like them. i missed them at first, thinking i wanted them, but thats just because it's all i had really heard. just needed a tweak in perception on what a system should sound like.

are you planning on running passive or active?
this will really influence your amp decision.
