sub advice

First of all they need to fit in a box behind the rear seat of 2003 super duty crew cab. I am after SQ not SPL. The amp is an Orion 2100 HCCA 3rd gen that I have not yet used. The amp puts out 800 X 1 @2 ohm. s and 1600 X 1 @ 1ohm @ 12 volts and these are RMS figures. I would like to have 2 12's back there but there needs to be enough airspace and SQ is top priority. One 12 would likely be fine as well or 2 10's. Eclipse comes highly recommended for SQ but I don't know if they will take this kind of power. I am thinking either one dual 2 ohm or two 2 ohm woofers. From what I have heard this amp punishes subs badly. I realize fully that there are bigger badder systems out there, but I need this to work for me.

Oh yikes, you have a big time issue going on here. I have had a 01 F350 crew and currently drive a 08 F350 crew. There is not much room back there at all. The Eclipse subs while they sound amazing I will not recommend unless you are fully aware that the CDN distributor will not cover them if they are blown. What I am saying is that if they smell blown, look blown or even are remotely close to having a toasty voicecoil, no warranty. Based on this alone I will only sell a customer a Eclipse sub if they are 100% aware of this. As it is generally abuse (ie: too much power, something you have), it might not be a ideal match.

Next issue is that the subs have a huge throw on them, the surrounds would be smacking the back of the seat, so again, not a good idea as this too will lead to a blown speaker and no warranty.

You will never ever get a DD3512 behind the seat of a crewcab F350, matter of fact pretty much all options are going to be limited to a shallow mount type of subwoofer. The downfall here is the matching to your big amplifier. Too much power is the killer of speakers, keep this in mind. While yes you can turn the amp waaaay down with the gain and perhaps even wire the speakers in series to knock the power output down again, the issue is the proper fit of the sub and the box behind the back seat.

Does your crew have the power rear slider? If so, you may be limited to 2 or 3 shallow mount 10" subs. The Kenwood Excelon or Pioneer Premiere are both proven performers. The Excelon you are going to need extra clearance with so as the cone will not hit the seat, the Premiere still needs clearance, just not as much. The subs are all going to be svc 4 ohm. They all take a small sealed or small ported box and all will fit behind the seat.

Drop me a line tomorrow if you like, forbidden@telus.net is my msn and e-mail or by PM if you like. I will point you in the right direction.

I was hoping somebody here would have some experience with this truck as far as box measurements, so I would not have to "reinvent the wheel" Oh well it will be fun. As far as I have read elsewhere, there is not alot of room (top depth mount of 5 3/16) with 3/4 MDF box but the seat brackets are modifiable. That being said I do not want to lose back seat leg room too much. Also, no I do not have a rear power slider. That is a relief!

I managed to fit a box with 1 10 Inch JL W1v2 sub behind the back seat in my 2000 nissan frontier crew cab. Put it this way...there's not even 6.5" between the rear wall and the bottom of the back seat lol. The box is built to the dimensions of the sub too. I can say that if you put 3 JL w1v2's in that truck they will definitely deliver. They are a shallow mount sub designed and built like a regular sub so you dont get that crappy thud like most pancake subs do. The nice thing about these is that you can bottom them out and they will still function normally because there is no air hole through the magnet. Go on JL's website and check them out. I recomend these subs to anyone who has your problem 100%. If you have any Q's on the install and fitment just ask.
I hope i helped u at all lol

I forgot to add they're only like $180 a piece and have a 4.34" mounting depth.
