Ok so IDmax in a custom ported box tuned at 40hz. Now where can I get that sub? I'd rather find it locally then order online. Next step is amp. What would you guys reccomend?also I'm assuming id have to upgrade my 4gauge to a 0gauge and get a bigger capacitor or battery? Recommendations please ?

Check the classified section here for Idmax 12 sub, I think they were a few good used ones for sale. Or you would have to order online. (get the dual 2 ohm sub).

No capacator (no one really uses cap anymore) or batttery. Upgrad to 0 guage wire and do the big 3 and you should be fine with the power needed.

Now to the amp, an amp that does rated rms wattage between 1000 to 1200 @ 1 ohm, would work fine, (I would go for the higher end of rated rms because I like amplifier head room).

I did pm you, responding to your other thread about a new amp I have for sale which would be ideal for a setup like yours, if you are interested we could work something out.

so if I do the big 3 with 2 amps one 4channel(my JL amp) and a 1200rms mono block I should be fine for power? I too like having extra power avalible so an amp that rms higher then 1000rms is ideal. I saw your pm and now I'm interested. Just have to gather up the funds. I wasn't planning on doing this tomorrow but in the near future yes. as of now I get lights dimming when I turn up the volume on bass heavy songs. do you think the big 3 will make enough of a difference ?

Do the the big 3, run your 0 guage. if needed, later you can add a battery at the back or upgrade a better battery in front.

What size alt you have (amps)?

jstoner22 02-07-2013 03:38 PM

start off with your big three.
do not get a cap as a fix. it will simply be a drain on your electrical.

you very well may need a battery, but most likely not.
start off with your big three and adequate wiring and go from there.

from my experience you don't need 1200watts RMS on the IDMax, but it absolutely doesn't hurt to have it on tap.

Personally I would tune the box much lower than that. However I'm not a box designer.

My alternator puts out 80amps. With the big 3 done is this enough?

jstoner22 02-07-2013 05:15 PM

That is actually quite a small alternator.

Still start with the big three and then move from there. I wouldn't be surprised if you needed more power though.

Sonic 02-07-2013 05:58 PM

Yes that's a small alt, and as suggested start with the big three, and I personally think tuning to 40hz is too high.

For daily and varity of music, considering the sub you are using and type of music, 35 hz is about where you should tune.

Well I could possibly get an alternator that'll put out 130amps. Would that be enough? And if I don't what do I need ? Trunk battery ?

Have you ever built a 40Hz vented enclosure and played variety's of different music through it to see how it responds .........
