Suggestions for a very good 3" midrange driver ??

Looking for a very nice 3" midrange driver to tie in with a dedicated midbase driver and a tweeter. Neither the midbass or the tweeter has been selected although some things are sitting on the shelf and are a possibility. But the midrange driver is the most critical in nailing the front end....... other two drivers will follow.

I'd like to see something that can get down to 200 hz and cover about 5 octaves. Midrange tonal characteristic are critical.

Powered off a TRU Tech C7.4. Vehicle is a BMW X5. Dash or A-pillar mounting location.

Any suggestions or commentary is welcome.

I'm thinking you'll be hard pressed to find a 3" that will play down to 200hz with any sort of usability, but I'll keep an eye on this thread just in case, as I'd be interested as well.

Tang Band 3" drivers are good, i have them on my a-pillars in a jetta.

They are technically full range speakers, but they do better in the 200 to 3khz range.

Can be found at partsexpress.com.

I beleive Fostex have a set of 3" drivers also.

Your options will really open up if you can find somewhere to fit a 4" midrange driver. You'll be lucky to find a 3" that'll play lower than 450Hz.

^or you will need a biger box to get it that low.

TB does have a lot of offerings, aura sound has a nice one to. And of course you can't not mention the HAT 3inch.

Why 3" mid? Do you have your mind made up already? Why 200Hz? Seems arbitrary? You dont have your midbass picked out yet, so why have you choosen a frequency range for the no existant midrange? If you willing to spend lots of money on speakers, I would consider looking into more then 3" mids. Vifa, Hybrid, TB, Focal, Aura, and more make 3" (or close to) midrange units. But each has their strength. If you goal in the ability to play 200Hz, get a bigger mid.

I said I'd "like" to get something that can do that. Size is function of the real-estate I'm working with. I have a 4" Audax at home that I'm going to toy with as well but I think that at the end of the day it's too big.

Not what I'm looking for............

The midrange driver is the MOST critical driver in the front end. Hardest to pick, hardest to install right and if not done right, will absolutely kill your front end. That is WHY I'm starting there. It's installation is a combination of PLD's and angles.......... and enclosures.......... and surfaces and on and on. Anyways, long story short, I don't agree with what you posted
