Thats not totally true.
Quote taken directly from usac's rules:
"Equipment detail (0 - 5) - Special attention is paid to consistency of product colors, trim, light, lettering, texture, and alignments"
While you might not loose points for simply having different brands, you could for example if you use different brand amps and there texture/look is different and not intergrated into the install.. Same goes for if you use a silver colored tweet next to a all black mid, etc..

Alpine F1............ you have that, judges don't even bother listening to your car as it is generally known that it will sound perfect regardless of the install. So then they just look at install....... and if you left them a C-note on the centre console ........... for beer.
