is there a such thing as a half blown speaker?
im new to the whole car audio thing and i think one of my speakers may be partially blown or going bad on me.
it sounds good when the volume is down low, but when it gets into the mid - high range it starts screwing up certain sounds.
It will play most tones correctly, but when it tries to play a select few it will just sound like crap, kind of like its giving up (if that makes any sense).
it is kind of crackly too, but im not sure if its the speakers or the songs, ill have to compare that later.

well im kinda new to this, but ill try to answer your questions best i can..
not really sure what gains are, so i cant really answer that.
whats a ghost?
i got it installed at the store, but a crossover is what separates the higher sound from the lower sound right? if so, i (should) have that, assuming the installers put it in (correctly).
and, i really hope im not turning it up too loud because its really not that loud (one of the speakers plays everything fine, but the other one like it is kinda bad. Maybe a bad speaker?)
and i live near regina.
Where are the crossovers usually installed? maybe i can check that (if i know what im checking for)

Are you running the speaker off the deck or an external amp? You should check and make sure that it is set to high pass and probably set it around 80hz to 120hz depending on your set up. Check your settings for bass, mid and all that too, something might be turned way up. If you have loudness turned on your deck that might be causing problems too.
If only one speaker is giving you problems check and make sure there aren't any loose wires. I had a loose wire going to my passenger side speaker and it could crackle and cut out sometimes.

im running them off the deck, the only amp if have is for the sub.
what is "high pass and probably set it around 80hz to 120hz depending on your set up" and how to i know what to set it at?
i looked through all the settings on my deck and nothing is turned way up/too high i dont think anyway. I checked the equalizers, fader, and the bass settings.
ill check the wiring sometime when i get a chance (probably tomorrow night).
