My personal experience with Pyramid amplifiers has not been good. I did like their eq/boosters though, at least in '84 I did. My suggestion is to get a decent brand for amplifiers etc. Now, regardless of what some people post here, I have had little trouble with Sony, kenwood, and Pioneer amps which are fairly cheap. As, for your question, any amp will run anything as long as it's within the amp's design parameters. How long it will do so properly is a whole other matter. In my case with Pyramid, it was not very long.

You have to go to the web site to get the manual to find real specs: www.pyramidcaraudio.com. That is when you find out that your 1600 watt amp really only puts out 125 watts rms x2 into 4 ohms, and 200watts rms x 2 into 2 ohms. There is no hard spec for bridged mode. And those are 14.4 volt specs. So expect even less in a real car environment. You decide for yourself if you think you got a good deal.

Haha, I like this quote I see there...

"ALL INFORMATION IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME WITHOUT NOTICE. WE WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR MISLEADING INFORMATION. WE ARE CONSTANTLY TRYING TO IMPROVE THE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE, FOR MORE COMPLETE INFORMATION PLEASE EMAIL SUPPORT@pyramidcaraudio.COM "

Now, maybe it's just me but this screams, "This stuff is crap wrapped up made to look nice, stamped with totally misleading power ratings that we hope fools the customer".

You guys are all crazy! Pyramid amps rock, I think everyone needs some. I'm on the boat and need to anchor, nothing like a couple Pyramid amps tied to a rope, my boat is going nowhere! I'm tuning the car in the driveway, one amp behind the back tire and I'm set, no rollin' down the driveway anymore! I keep one in my trunk for emergency purposes, my car breaks down in the middle on nowhere, I hook the amp up, presto I got fire! I'm not freezin tonight! Not to mention the convenience of going down to the drug store, pickin up a prescription and an amplifier! How much better does it get??? Next week I'm taking my Porsche to walmart for a tune-up and some performance rubber! Yeah baby! Yeah!

All you guys are forgetting the fact that you can pick up a 1600 watt pyramid amp for under $200 i would definitly put that amp in the must have list of turds wraped in nice paper with a ribbon and bow.

Hey you're probably pretty new at this ...so how about you return that Pyramid and take the money and buy a decent amp here in the For Sale section... guaranteed to be be a better amp, and if you're not sure just ask how a particular amp would be for driving the subs you've got.

Lets be realistic. It is probably not a bad 125w x 2 amp, especially for the US$80 buy it now price. However shipping to Canada was US$50, plus whatever customs and tax. That now probably ends up at least CDN$150. For that price you can get top quality used items here or on ebay. Any of us here would be happy to advise you on whats good on ebay.
Unfortunately for you, you now have an amp that is not the best for your subs. However why dont you try them out. Do a proper install that allows you to change the amp in the future if you are not happy with it. Connect each of your subs in parallel giving 2 ohms. That way you will at least get 200watts each from your amp.
We all learn by mistakes, many of us start by buying inexpensive gear to start and upgrade later. Keep reading this forum, and ask questions before you buy! Especially on ebay, You usually have at least a week before the auction ends, and on most new Buy IT now items, you will see the same things over and over again.
On a more general discussion, A similar pioneer GM-5200T puts out 125w rms x 2 and retails for about US$160. This is about $110 wholesale/dealer cost. Most electronics manufacturers have a cost of goods about half, so it would cost pioneer about $60 to manufactur. Probably about the same that the Pyramid costs. Maybe even made in the same city in China! Audo power amps are not rocket science, no high tech to design or build.

Don't waste your money on the cap and purchase the amplifier or use the funds for the cap on a better amplifier.
