im looking into either an amp to either power my front stage or my whole system... the amps in question are the tru t-2.100, tru t-4.65, helix hxa500mkii, and the us amps tu-300...

im not too familiar with tru amps, but have only heard good things about them... never really heard a complaint about an us amp... and helix is kinda half and half... not too many people over here have them, but apparantly they are the equivalent of pioneer and kenwood back in germany... but no complaints out of the few people that have them...

im seriously looking into a tru t-4.65 w/ the burr brown mod... however i think its too power for my front stage... im running a set of cdt c/f hd's w/ 560 crossovers and the m-519 upstage system... the cdts are rated to take up to 150 rms, but with the upstage i might need a bit more power to make up for it... i know headroom is supposed to be a good thing, but is there any risk by having that much power on tap (since tru would probably put upwards of 300 rms per channel actual power)?

also... ive been told that the motorola t-03's they use in the tru amps and helix arent that good for 12v applications... not sure how much of this is true...

sorry for the long post, but just need some help deciding... which amp would you pick neglecting cost?

thanks

To be fair in all aspects you are really looking to compare apples to oranges..... The Helix and Us amps are Tube amps and the Tru is a T03 amp. Although all amps will sound amazing to do a true comparison you would need to compare the Helix and US to the Tru C-7.2 or C-7.4 or possibly even the Tru AC-1.....
4ohms RMS power
25W x 2 @ 50° C
15W x 2 @ 70° C

pure class A

Never have heard anything bad about T03's.

IMO, you're throwing your money away on the Burr Brown mod on the tru's, even the damn designer says he needs to hear the amps in a listening room on monitors to tell the difference. What's the signal chain in this install look like?

I dont think Helix makes a tube amp, US Amps and TRU make tube amps. BTW I believe Helix is made in Germany and is Brax's little brother.

Hmmm the sound of sand (sounds like a Simon and Garfunkel hit to me)

Would you know what the stock Opamp is?(in the TRU amp) BurrBrown do makes quite a few good sounding Opamps. But from listening to the TRU T-O3 4.150... I personally don't feel it needs to be modified in any way.

Correct.

Helix is Brax like Pontiac is G.M.

To my knowledge Brax doesn't make a Tube amp.
