Turn-on noise.
Hi everyone!
So I have been dealing with this issue for a bit now and cannot figure out what the issue is. I have had the car looked at multiple times by others and the problem cannot be solved. So here it is! Upon turn on I recieve a squeak / pop / thump through all of my speakers. The strength of which varies randomly. It can range from a tiny squeak to a rare thump sending an amp into protect. The gear that I am using is, Head Unit - Pioneer DEX-P99RS Amps - Zed Leviathan, Zed Kronos Testing done so far has ruled out certain things. RCA's disconnected - still happens Rear Battery disconnected - still happens REM jumped straight off of battery - disappears So it was thought that because the headunit was connected to front battery while amps directly to rear battery there was some kind of fluctuation. A relay was added allowing the amps to be activated by front battery - Still happens. I have also tried a variable turn on delay to no avail. I have gone through and tightened all of my grounds and still nothing. Also the Zed's are post faulty chip era. Does any one have ANY ideas at all? |
So if your amps turn on first, the noise goes away?
|
no difference if the amp / headunit turn on first.
playing with the headunit grounds did make a difference though its factory harness right now. taking the ground away and relying strictly on the antennae resulted in a much more pronounced squeak/pop. grounding to the chassis didn't make any difference than using the factory harness though. |
do you have a turn on relay?
if not try adding one |
I've read about blown muting transistors in some cases - whatever they are
I also have turn off pop (long story short, I had a dead short from amp speaker outputs to ground - resulting in a blown output transistor, which is still un-repaired, so for my front outputs I am using speaker level inputs to a LOC.... anyway ever since "tractor pulling" my front inputs I now have turn off noise, even if I unpower the amplifier before the head unit. |

Relays add noise because of coil transients when power is un-applied from the coil... even with a protection diode
|
Not sure if this would help you, but, have you checked the all the grounds impedences with a DMM?
When we had a similar problem, it was cured when we changed our grounds to a new place with the same low impedance as the front battery ground. We had 3 ground points before, all different imp., after, we had 2 with the exact same impedance and no noise:thumbsup: |
thanks guys, i'm about to go out and try some of this now.
i know now that relays add noise. there is an audible click when they activate and you can hear it shut off through the speakers. |
I'm having the same problems with mine, tried swapping the RCAs and that didn't change anything.
